Any HSF-5 kits installed completely in the engine bay?

Ideally I'd like to have the tank, pump and everything else up under the hood. I can see a few spots to stick a small tank, but I'm open for ideas on where to put this big *** pump! Anybody done a setup like this yet?

If you remove your bumper you can see that there is some room where the ACD is, I'm not sure if you could fit the pump there but there is a bit of room. Also if you have small battery you can also use that extra space.

Other than that there is not all that much room. I think most people install it in the trunk. Personally I feel a lot safer have large tanks of methanol far away from my motor rather then next to it.

I've heard that argument before, but I see it like this:

a) if you are running a 50/50 mix it isn't flammable anyway
b) if you are running pure meth, I'd rather be protected by a real firewall vs. having it in the trunk where only cloth separates it from the passenger compartment.

good point on the true firewall. The 50/50 meth thing, I am not sure if that is true. Some people have tested it and been able to ignite 50/50 despite popular belief.

why have 15' of fragile line filled with meth running the entire length of your car? why have to worry about spilling meth on your carpet while filling the tank? Why worry about having luggage banging into your setup every time you hit the brakes? It seems much more unnatural to put a fuel system in the inside of a car than it does out in the engine bay. Let me flip the question around, what is the advantage of having it in the trunk that offsets these other issues? That's not meant to sound smart-ass, I honestly want to know why everybody jumps on putting it in the trunk, that just seems very odd to me.

you really want to keep that pump away from heat, moisture/water splash, dust...

these nylon lines are more sturdy than you think, it takes quite a lot of effort cutting thru them even with a new razor blade

having the methanol in the trunk is safer incase of an accident...the autoignition temperature of methanol is ~470C...which is easily seen on the exhaust manifold. if you ever get rear ended, less chance of turining it into a torch

That is interesting, that is a pretty high temp. I bet that is why people have conflicting results when they try to ignite different concentrations of water and meth, perhaps they were not heating it enough.

Where are you routing the lines, under the car? Are you putting them in some kind of sleeve? Last winter when I was driving in deep snow/ice I managed to tear the heavy duty header wrap right off my downpipe. I was picturing trauma like that being inflicted on these lines and things not turning out so well. What about running stainless braided teflon for the under-car portion of the line?

Also, how loud is this pump? Can you hear the thing wizzing away when it's in the trunk?

my nylon lines run under the door sill and enters the engine bay from the hole behind the glove compartment. it is very well protected in there. no sleeving at all.

the pump....you wont be able to hear it when you get on it, the exhaust noise far exceeds the purring of the pump. all i knotice id this when i have pedal to the floor Click here to watch dds3

I put my HFS-5 in the same place my SMC was, driver side rear fender. Ran the lines under the car after slipping a braided sleeve around it. It’s in the trunk out of the way and not in plain sight when the carpet is in the trunk.

For the line, are you saying you routed it through the passenger compartment, kind of like guys do with a power cable for a trunk mounted amp? Or are you meaning through the rocker panel down beneath the car?

No one should be routing lines outside of the chassis. That is an improper installation.
