Setup on Nitrous?
What basic mods do i need to run nitrous? I have been thinking about it for a while now. The only thing i worry about is breaking something, but with a good tune i shouldn't worry, right? Have a couple of questions for you guys that run nitrous.
1. Where do you guys buy the kit?
2. Have you guys experienced any problems running a small 50 shot kit?
3. How does it work if i only spray sometimes on full throttle. Do i have just one map for spray and no spray? Or is there a way a different map is activated when i spray.
Thanks in advance........

1. You can buy the kit from many places...such as slowboyracing.com...i've seen a couple kits there...
2. One of my buddies run a 75 shot on their 04 evo 8 and haven't experienced any problems....i tuned for their setup and in the end we took out about 2-3 degrees of timing at WOT and adjusted the fuel a little and so far 0 knock and pulling timing and the car feeels strong!
3. Usually, the kits come with microswitches that you mount on your throttle body or behind the pedal so when you go WOT, it clicks and activates the solenoids to spray at only WOT throttle...and before you spray, you have to arm it with a switch that they also give you....My buddy has the stock ecu and runs only one map that works for nitrous and pump for him...i set it up so its the most ideal setup for nitrous, and then when he feels like screwin around w/out nitrous, he just uses nitrous map and it still feels pretty strong since there's only about 2 degrees retarded...

Do you guys run wet or dry? Where do most people tap their nozzle?

On a turbocharged engine, wet is the way to go. For a 50 shot I would go with spark plugs that are one heat range colder than stock. Some sort of datalogging device to monitor knock would be a good idea as well. What are you using for tuning?

I like the "wet" Zex kit made by Comp Cams. It is very simple to install and really doesn't need any other tuning. I use this on my car as well as have installed this kit on 3 other evo's. Cheapest & easiest .5 sec. et drop you can do! It comes with 35, 55, and 75 HP jets. Hope that helps!

i have yet to instal mine, but... i went with a direct port system from nx. i feel that the even distribution of the direct port might save m some sleepless nights and also allow for a bit more accuracy when tuning. just my 2 cents.

All turbo cars should use a wet set up. For a 50hp shot you should pull 2 degrees of timing out when the spray hits and thru the rest of the timing map where your spraying. The consertive rule of thumb is -2 degrees per 50 shot. You should also only spray with 110 octane or higher, and keep it around 11.5 to 1 on spray. Of course you can go more aggresive or use a cheaper fuel, but is it worth a busted motor?
