Question toulene or xylene?

can you use either of these in place of denatured alky or methanol? I have a pretty big supply of all of it but just wanted to know if we could use it with the alky kits that are out.

xylene and toluene is just like putting in race gas octane rating around 110.
I sometimes put xylene in my gas tank to raise octane rating. methanol is totally different substance. If you put xylene or toluene there, it will be like putting in the race gas. also, xylene toluene will melt the rubber parts and hoses of alky kit and possibly damage the pump.

so run either of the two straight and there will be no problems but put into the alky kit then you have truoble. How often do you use these in your gas tank and what kind of gains are typical with some type of tuning? the same as putting any other race fuel?

Thanks

toluene/methyl benzene, xylene/dimethyl benzene will destroy santoprene, the diaphragm material used for majority of the pumps used for alky. You might be able to get away with it using a fuel pump like the "old style" smc injection kits. Also if a solenoid is used for a pressurised system, the seat material would have to be a fluoropolymer like viton and lines will have to be ~pfa, ptfe, ......

Also, you got to worry about distribution issues unless you go direct port inj. then there is the issue of failure thru injection.

Best bet, just pour the stuff into the gas tank...since you got lots of it.

Most every non metallic part with the kit is at least moderately soluable in xylene or toluene or any other nonpolar solvent for that mater.

It will dissolve your kit and likely catch your car on fire.
