Hey Shiv, on step V of updating the firmware it says to remove orange piece from black connector, I have no orange piece in the black connector. The grey connector has it in it, but not the black one. How do I go about obtaining the orange inner piece?

Why did I get a C Reader if it's not referenced in the install directions? I know how to use it, but why do I need it? Will my car be throwing codes now that I'll need to clear?

NM, found the answer to my own question:

"The C-Reader OBD-II diagnostic tool is used to monitor the factory OBD-II system and help with any diagnosis issues/troubleshooting. You'd be amazed by how many times people call and tell us about a code that they haven't even read yet. This will eliminate that problem. As an added benefit, keeping the C-Reader plugged in eliminates the Po300 code that aflicts many EVOs. The other nice thing about the C-Reader is that it is small and plugs directly into the OBD-II port. No wires hanging down. It is completely hidden with no handheld unit flopping around. It is also powered by the OBD-II port so not batteries to run out."

Thanks,
Sam

Hi,
I was reading through the instructions just now and came upon these for firmware updating:
Question 1:
IV. Cut the purple wire.

I assume that after cutting the purple wire, you want to strip it a bit to put into the black connector in the Step V?

But later in VIII and IX, the instructions state to wrap the purple wire around the stripped red wire. Isn't the purple wire already in the black connector?

Question 2:
XV. Restart the car, and take note that the light on the xede goes to solid green. However, do not try to drive the car in this state, as there will not be a map loaded into the xede.

I assume that this is why we saved the map in Step VII? How do I load my regular and race map back in?

Also, has anyone had any success with the "update firmware" feature in the Xmap software? I (and others) never could get XUpdate to work with my computer Why I hate XEDE software, and essay by EvoSam and a call for help so I don't revel in the thought of trying to do it again.

And, are the first few pages of the instructions just another way of doing what we did with the last firmware update where we plugged that wire into the empty slot and powered it up from the battery?

Thanks,
Sam

Questions about wires

1. on step VIII of the FIRMWARE UPDATE, where is the origin of the RED POWER WIRE?

2. On step IV of Wideband & Knock buffer, it says the brown wire should connect
to the Purple wire going into the XEDE. Is this the purple wire, which was just
inserted into pin 10 on the gray connector, as described in step I of this same section?

3. On Step X of this same segement, it says to tap the the pink wire into
the pink wire on the XEDE, is there any particular way to do this, or just solder on?

Thanks

Question 1: When the wire is pulled from the connector, it will have a pin on it already, so there is no need to strip any wire when placing it into the black connector. The other end of the purple wire is what will be wrapped around the red power wire. So yes, the end of the wire that is cut will be stripped, in order to wrap it around the red power wire. (Pin 7 on the gray connector)

In term of the mapping instructions, that is shiv's instructions.

Ah that clarifies it. Thanks Dustin.
So I assume that after the firmware update has been completed, I'll want to take out the purple wire, connect it back to the other purple wire I cut it from originally, and place it in pin 10 of the gray connector, like it say in the instructions?

I. Remove the Purple wire used for firmware updating, and using the same process as before, move the purple wire back into the pin that it originally came from. (Pin 10 on the gray connector)

I had success with the "update firmware" feature in the last xmap version. It worked fine. I can also use XUpdate which I normally use, but the "update firmware" worked for me.

I believe so.

Crusin lancer, thanks for the reply. It's good to hear that it can be done within XMAP itself as I can't make Xupdate find any other COM port on my laptop.
