We are going to try our best to make the final product full 3" or as close to 80mm as possible. It will configured the same as the stock cat because that is required for certification and it will be a full stainless cat.

That statement doesn't always apply now a days. The whole 50 state legal saying.

Not a single exhaust that any vendor sells is legal in Massachusetts.

No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any way which motor vehicle is equipped (1) with a muffler from which the baffle plates, screens or other original internal parts have been removed and not replaced; or (2) with an exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust.

Also, to add to it, reading the "amplify" portion really can't be fought either. I have gone to court and even brought paperwork mentioning XXX exhaust is 50 state legal, carb legal, below 93db and so on. The way the law interprets the above is you CAN NOT modify your exhaust.

Just adding that in. Not bad mouthing this product or anything else. Just mentioning that I always see vendors state these things, and they really aren't what it means anymore.

I think you may be a little bit confused, we are not selling a performance exhaust system, we are producing a new Replacement catalytic converter for the evo that would be a 50 state legal replacement. These are not designed as "performance cats" they are designed as a replacement part. Right out of the box they will be 50 state legal for 03-05 evos and comply with everything required to be street legal and pass both a physical and sniffer test while minimizing the restriction of the stock cat. The only reason they will not be legal for 06+ is because you cannot legally replace a cat on a car that is less than 4 years old. If for some reason your cat needed to be replaced within 4 years of its manufacturing date you are supposed to take the car to the dealership and have the cat replaced under warranty. This product is not designed to amplify sound in any way.

I was just referring to the overall term 50 state legal that gets thrown around a lot. If the car was inspected by the Registry and saw that it wasn't an OEM cat they'd probably still nail us here in MA, as it is not an original Mitsubishi part, meaning it is altering the exhaust.

Maybe. But the state can't make you buy a part from one place, or else Mitsu would have to give them away for free or the state of MA would have to provide them for you. That's why he's saying under 4 years you go back and have it replaced by the dealer under warranty. After that 4 years you would have to replace it with something that works just as well. What if Mitsu charged $1000 for the stock part? They can't make you buy that when there's reasonable alternatives for less.
