Good idea?
I am wanting to run E-85 this summer, but I also want to be able to switch maps back to pump gas just in case for some reason I'm running low and can't find an E-85 station and need to run from the pump. As well, same situation if I wanted to take a road trip. With UTECs going for so cheap, would this be a good way to have my regular Dynoflash'd ecu for pump and switch over to the UTEC for an E-85 map? I've spent a few hours searching the tuning forums, but I'm not finding the exact answers I need. I'm not looking to be constantly switching stuff around, I have a few more mods left, then the car will be left alone besides needing to occasionally run pump

The utec is loosing support unfortunately, well not lost but shrinking. But it is a very good unit, just getting a little outdated. It would allow you to switch maps easily, with a trigger input. If you install one, you might want to just use it soley as it has many benefits over the stock ecu, and will let you switch maps on the fly, (also a good meth/alky/water injection failsafe.

A utec will allow you to do exactly what you are looking for for. Turbo XS is getting out of the engine managment business, but that does not negate the fact that the UTEC is a very powerful unit that offers a lot of potential. Just the feature of switching maps without a laptop is a great thing. Be sure to buy one with all the goodies. The map switch, map sensor and a tuner. You will not regret it.

Cobb vs UTEC
sorry if i'm being redundant in threads here, but i just want to get an idea of the UTEC system. if my car is at 300-350hp this system, albeit older, seems to fit my needs. if got other Turbo XC equipment and they are rock-solid. i want some impressions from those who use both systems, esp as i am to add a MBC...thanks

With the UTEC, don't add a MBC. It's a waste of money. Get a MAP sensor and use the UTEC to tune boost. You get rid of boost spikes adn can adjsut boost levels on the fly by switching maps. Way better in my opinion. Plus you cna use the MAP as a load reference instead of the MAF making tuning much more reliable and a heck of a lot easier. GO UTEC in spite of the lack of updates for it. I use the UTEC Control Center (UCC) which someone created and it works like a charm. Excel is useful for analyzing data too.

Ditto. I have been using it for 4 years at HP levels from 290 to now 500 HP and it works great. Many people don't like the idea of running meth all the time. The beauty of the UTEC is that you can have a meth only map and put the meth on a switch and only run it when you want. Plus they are dirt cheap used. For $400 you should be able to pick up everything that you need. Many of my friends run ane AEM with the same 50 trim as me. None have made more power or having a better running car as a result. Some of the old limitations of the utec are gone with the advent of ECU- Flash. The combination of the 2 is kick A$$.
