Help! Which wires which?

Okay so I am trying to power up my UTEC off of an AC adapter so that I can tune my ECU off of my desktop...or at least mess with it, sorry no lap-top as of yet.
Now the technical part:
This is the adapter plug I got from RadioShack

This is the adapter

This is the adapter and the plug

Now last but not least, heres the plug with the UTEC

So which wire do I hook up the the plugs to? The UTEC manual says the positive has to be in the center of the plug. There is one wire on the adapter that has a white stripe on it, some people have told me its positive and some have told me its negative. And on the adapter plug, I don't know which stem will lead to the center and which stem will lead to the outer. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Anybody like to take a stab at this? I'm dying to hook it up to my car once I download the base maps to it.

do you have a multimeter? Check resistance on your plug and find out which prong goes to the center and which goes to the outer.

Then check voltage on the wires coming from your power adapter. The stripe normally represents the ground wire.

If you don't have a multimeter, you can get one from radio shack for about the price you paid for the power adapter.

Problem solved! I went to radioShack to get a multimeter when I noticed their ac adaptor that works with their adataplug, also If you buy the ac adaptor it comes with one plug of your choice. Thanks everyone.

glad you got it fixed. The Utec gets a bad rap, but it's a good unit overall, I think you'll be happy with it. You gotta get a laptop, the datalogging feature is one of the best aspects.
