Stock clutch SUCKS!!! - Update CDV removed

Hey guys,

No useful info here. I'm just pissed. My 16yr old Gvr4 with a stock clutch can launch better than the POS clutch. I am not sure if it's the clutch or the dam CDV (restriction pill)

I tried to launch on the factory 5000 rom stutter and slip the clucth quickly, Car went no where fast...within 2 sec's I let off and all I could smell was clutch...this blows..

Somebody please, please remove the CDV and tell me it gets better....I don't really want to remove the tranny on a car with less than 3000 miles on it. I will remove my CDV, but I want to get my tech manuals first!

And before anyone claims I'm killing my car... I drive very sedately most of the time. However even when I try to slip it just a little I smell Exedy bull****!!!

i sorry noob here how do you launch a car . This is my second manual car and after civic si having from 1 year.

^You have to get a Driver Mod first.....Then you can launch

I remember back in 03 and 04, all the newbies were complaining about needing clutch replacements after 3000 miles or so. Here we go again....

Can't we're governed @ 5k (i believe) and same thing happened to me @ the track last week... also when you shift fast you can feel the restrictor pill slipping the next gear... it sucks BIG TIME ! !! !! ... all it took for me was one hard slip and now i need a new clutch.. no joke!

The restrictor is in the slave cylinder. Someone pull it already!

Can the evo tranny hold up to hard launches without the restrictor pill in place?

The CDV is making the engagement point unpredictable. This is my first vehicle with a CDV though. The engagement point is a moving target...sometimes 2 inches off the floor sometimes very close to the top. I'm guessing this is a result of the CDV. This makes it very difficult to get a quick launch.

^I never have any inconsistency with pedal engagement on my X. It's half way up every time. Although any clutch is going to engage a little quicker off the floor once it's hot. Happened on my STi all the time, and it's nothing to worry about. I will take the restrictor out shortly to see if it improves the feel of the clutch. My only complaint is that the car is real boggy off the line and when going up a hill from a stop the clutch stinks because you have to ride it a bit more than most clutches to avoid bogging down the engine. This could be because of the restrictor pill, but either way it makes me worry that it's going to wear out prematurely. Hell, turbo trix said that their X's clutch started slipping after the car was making only 100 hp more than stock. I think that mitsu goes overboard when trying to preserve the drivetrain with the restrictor pill, rev limiter in neutral, and uber soft clutches. It's a problem easily rectified by removing the restrictor pill and upgrading the clutch and line, but at the expense of voiding your warranty. I love mitsu cars but hate their shoddy warranty practices. Ugh...

^^Exactly...shoddy is right. I wonder what the the pressure plate (lbs) is on the X's. Seems to be less maybe than the other evos? Maybe the extra 300lbs just toasts the clutch. Or Mitsubishi got tired of replacing $3000 transfer cases every day because of people (cough cough) that dont know how to launch.
