Back purging on an AMS polished header...pics
We recently built a header for one of our customers here and in the process we thought we would highlight one of our welding process' here called back purging. In addition to the Argon being introduced during tig welding The process creates an almost oxygen free environment by flowing argon through the backside of the weld.
Why do this you ask? simple. By eliminating the oxygen you can control the heat in the weld itself and create an environment for producing the strongest possible welds.
our friend and your's Sharkbite (Steve) purchased a polished header from us and we couldn't think of a better candidate to highlight.
All the welding in the photos following was done by one of our veteran fabricators Chris Nielsen
pictures: Arthur Sojdehee
in the first pic you can see the barb fitting that will flow argon through the runner
All four lines are Tee'd to one silicone line flowing argon
Argon is also introduced into the collector
The process at work!
Chris laying a bead
It doesn't just look Great, its strong as hell
ART!
Still Glowing!
Two runners almost complete
I have always said AMS has some of the best fabricators I have ever seen. Chris proves me right once again
So there you have it. A little insight to how things are done here at AMS. I will toss up some pictures later of the finished product.
FYI we are going to be offering this Polishing option to our turbo kits here in the future. stay tuned

My Boss's Brother does that all day for you. Although i think he's still on intercoolers? Only met him once before he moved out there, but I hear amazing things about his welding and your shop.
I'm talking about Drew, In case you didnt know.

You tell that guy Chris Nielson his welds look so perfect, you would have expected that from a robotic welder!
If there weren't pics of him making the damn manifold, you would think that a machine welded that!
Kudos to him! Impressive!
