I have had report of a HSV problem and subsequently failed due to heat flux from the front under track works. Is it possible to shield the HSV and flow sensor or reposition it in the wiper motor compartment. (preferably shielded from direct rain spray.

Here is one location a WRC car put the HSV and lived to tell the tale.

Abner - Seems like you got this down to a science. This is what your 5th install already?

Richard - was the heat failure on an Evo? I would not expect it to get that hot at the back of the engine compartment.

Yes, that was on my car when I did the Summit Point Redline Time Attack. My car also has Swaintech coating on the manifold and other hot exhaust parts under the hood. It was no problem on the street, but the track was another story.

Richard - with regard to failure of the HSV from heat, how hot is too hot?

After driving around yesterday I popped my hood and felt the HSV, it was warm to the touch but not hot at all. I could have easily closed my hand around it without it being hot.

Granted, this was after normal driving around and not racing.

The winding is rated at 140C. The sealing compound soften at 100C and starting to flow at 150C. So when you see the sealant dripping off the HSV, It is the time for a replacement.

There isn't much point using 180C winding for the coil. EPDM seal will be damaged and all water will be pushed out of the valve at ~8.5bar + 125psi pump pressure.
