blown trans or x-fer case?!?

I'm getting a clunking sound from where I believe is right about under my feet. It sounds like and feels like someone is taking a hammer to the underside of my car. Looked under it and it's not a loose axle. My buddy had a similar problem on his GSX and said it's probably the transfer case which also f-ed up my 1st gear. It clanks horrificly and while driving the tires lock up turning. Is this the dif in the trans? X-fer case and or rear diff. I havn't looked at it too much because I havn't had time but will do so tomorrow on my day off. Any ideas would be a helpful start as well as recomendations for an easy/less expensive fix or a simple diagnostic to determine either one of these. Either way I'll find out the hard way in the end... just looking for a good starting point or suggestions.

PS if it is any of these problems. Where and Can I take the trans/x-fer case for a rebuild in central jersey?? turbotrix?? I actually hope they respond to this post as my friend got his fixed by prior owners of BM-tranny.

approx cost to fix ?

I say TC, as a tranny wouldn't lock up the wheels while turning. Not trans IMO.
