My Winter Project... 25.1E RWD Evo 8
#317
Well its looking good to bringing it there but I really doubt it will run by then. Im talking with a few companies about full sponsorships to get me an engine, turbo, tranny, etc so if any of those pull through it may be running but I doubt even that. I am however pretty sure I will trailer it there just for fun.
I finished getting the body aligned with the chassis, putting on the fenders, bumpers, doors, etc. Along with all the brake componants, rear end, suspension, tires, etc... Its pretty much a full rolling chassis again.
I will get it tinned this week for sure. It may not be my final aluminum work but it will suffice for now to get it going. There are still alot of loose ends to tie up but many of them are not difficult or time consuming. I expect it to be fully finished minus the engine / transmission within a week or two at most. I should set up a donation box for an engine, transmission and turbo or something
Pics of the project will be coming up shortly here. It all turned out quite well.

Still no tinning but I am getting it slowly back assembled. I just have most the body panels on for pic purposes but it makes it finally look like a car again:
I really enjoy this angle... rubber never looked so good:

Poor Evo. Not dissing this project at all, but why get an Evo Frame when there are many more better looking frames out there that are already RWD. for craftsmanship and ingenuity.

I tried to make it to a little outing here so I quick welded up my front tube that holds the front bumper and hood and will eventually hold the radiator, trans cooler, fuel cell, etc... So all in all it has every body panel on it now. I need to do a bunch of riveting, dzus fasteners and aluminum work but its getting very very close. Hopefully the next few weeks will get it finished up!
Oh and it weighs 1180 with everything minus aluminum work, lexan windows, longblock, turbo assembly, transmission. driveshaft, fuel cell, radiator/trans cooler and two doors. Not too bad. Im still hoping to be around 2100 lbs race weight. Might need to swap out the trunk with a fabricated carbon one and maybe the doors but I think Ill make my goal or be very close to it.
The front tires will be held down with wheelie bars. I am pretty sure I will go with a 5,500 stall off a trans brake with nitrous... it will launch with authority I am hoping

Best of luck. If I can ever help with anything, let me know...even though Im 30 hours drive away!
Actually, I was curious, what became of the intake manifold you'd been working on about a year and a half ago? I sold my evo in November and Ive been avoiding the boards since due to sheer depression. I have every intention of getting an evo 9, but I just wanted to pop in and say if you ever come to Englishtown NJ with that car, please keep me posted, as I'd make the 2 hour drive to come see it in person. Good luck!

After seeing your last post, why an automatic? Maybe thats the right choice, solid boost built up on the line, but with nitrous that could be accomplished. Considering expense is another thing, I understand.
But really, with a high revving 4g63 and a large turbo, you'd be better suited to a 5 speed sequential box, allowing the car to come up to redline on the nitrous...think rotaries.
Just a thought...its getting late. Night
