Today we had the pleasure of having a good customer/friend come in with his 2005 EVO RS. He wanted to have our double pumper fuel system installed and have the car tuned to run on E85.

We have been discussing doing this for well over a month so we had a good plan of attack.

The car is set up to run normal pump gas now or E85. Just a flip of a switch takes care of all the mapping and changes.

Basic run down of the car is this:

BR Stages 1-4
AEM EMS
BR double pumper
BR Race FMIC
HKS 272 cams
BR GT35R turbo kit
BR 3" turbo back, Vband with two Bullet mufflers to keep it quiet.
1000 cc fuel injectors
BR Stage 3 head
BR ported stock intake manifold
BR 65 mm throttle body
STOCK SHORT BLOCK

Previously the car had made 477 whp on pump/alky but the dyno chart wasn't that great. It was at the shootout and I had not time to fine tune the map to get it smoothed out. The car is now making 505 whp/390 ft lbs of torque.

Below you will find the dyno sheet from today. I have to admit I really couldn't be more impressed than I am right now with this car. The tune is great, the smoothness of the engine is great and the power level this car is at for the mods that are done is actually pretty phenominal. Considering this is on a $2 per gallon fuel makes it unreal.

Looks good! I've been waiting for e85 to come to pumps near me. It looks to be a good alternative to running meth or racegas and it's price makes it very attractive.

Is gas mileage affected very much? To get the same output as gasoline, you would have to run more E85, correct?

Also, what boost is this car running?

Have you guys done any work with stock turbo cars and E85?
Iam interested in results on something with stages 1-2 and of course the fuel system to support the E85. Some sort of dual map box ( No AEM thanks) would be nice too, so the ecu has the right map for the fuel available without needing a laptop.
This might be offtopic by now.

"Ethanol has less energy content than gasoline. However, E85 also has a much higher octane (ranging from 100 to 105) than gasoline. FFVs are not optimized to E85, so they experience a 5% to 15% drop in fuel economy. This will vary based on temperature and driving conditions. For comparison purposes, aggressive driving habits can result in a 20% loss and low tire pressure can reduce mileage by 6%."

The car hit 30.04 peak boost for just an instant. Rest of the pull was 29 psi.

Yes, fuel mileage is going to be effected. I'd expect a 20% loss in fuel mileage.

Keith is going to give me a call later today/tomorrow with highway mileage results.

e85 is good stuff. Good to see more tuner's starting to get into it. The cost to mileage value of e85 seemed to even out with 93 octane when it was 3 dollars a gallon or so. Now that gas is cheaper again ($1.95 a gallon by me) e85 will be a bit more expensive to run. But you also get about 104 octane value for 2 dollars a gallon from e85.

What parts of the fuel system have to be modified to run E85? Injectors? Pump? Lines? E85 is kickass!
