Part numbers to the 5th gear grind TSB-04-22-003REV

I am sure some of you have know about the transmission TSB-04-22-003REV and have seen the picture below.

What I couldn’t find out is the second page that contained all the part numbers FOR this TSB. Well, now I have finally found them. They are listed below with the part numbers and the list price

5th Gear syncro MR581382 $29.87

Reverse Gear Syncro MN168934 $33.84

5th/Reverse Sleeve MN168859 $44.67

5th Syncro Ring MR581383 $3.02

Rev Syncro Ring MR581383 $3.02

Other parts that might be a good idea to replace would be

3rd gear Syncro MD770348 $34.65

3rd gear syncro ring MR581389 $3.04

4th gear syncro MD748058 $21.83 (good idea to replace since it’s a single syncro)

4th gear synrco ring MD581389 $3.04

1st/2nd sleeve MR581384 $45.32 (good idea to replace if you have grinded 2nd gear)

If you need part numbers to any other parts, pm me, I have wincaps (and soon the evo9 wincaps)

And come to find out, taking apart the trans is SOOOOOOOOOOO easy. There are seriously only 4 main parts to it, the diff, the 2 shafts and the shift rails. You don’t need any special tool to take out the 2 main shafts. However, you will need a press to take out the gears from the shafts, which is also not that hard of a job. Easiest way to do that part is to take it to a local trans shop and have them do it. I did that, because I didn’t have a press, and they are charging me $50.

hope this is good info. good luck

I have the 2nd to 3rd gear grind. Took it back to the dealer (Car Max) twice. The 1st time they just changed the tranny fluid with new fluid. The car still grinded so i took it back to them again and they said they couldn't feel any grinding after 2 service men test drove it?? I went on a test drive w/a repair rep and he said it shifts fine. While he drove i had him put the clutch in while I shifted partially in to 3rd and it grinded horribly in between. So I left it there for a few seconds so he could hear the grinding. His response was that I wasn't shifting all the way into gear and wasn't shifting fast enough, which I think is BS cause they just don't wan't to fool with it. I still have a 18 month extended warranty with them.

try the BG syncroshift fluid II and increase the height of your clutch pedal. i would worry for the type of transmission fluid they used.

Thanks, I'll try adjusting the peadl today. I hear more ppl using the Penzoil Synchromesh though, I'd like to try it but am worried if this will void the warranty? On the repair report from the dealer the dumbasses also put for reason: "vehicle modified, boost 18-20psi, suspect chipped or reprogrammed" WTF!!?? All I have is a TBE and boost gauge, lol. Mechanics REALLY hate to deal w/Evos.

i have used the pensoil syncromesh and its good...... but i found the BG was better. also the BG is synthetic, so it lasts a lot longer.

the dealer must be REALLY stupid. stock boost on an 03 evo is 19.8psi.

Is its weight within the OEM spec/will this void warranty if the grinding persists and i have to take it back in?

I know, i just laughed. The repairman i test drove with said these cars were made to "shift fast & hard" and i was simply shifting too slow. Hmmm, shifting slow= 3rd gear grinding? I already hate these lazy guys.
