Cool Max wheel horsepower for stock tranny?

What is the maximum wheel horsepower the stock tranny is good for? I have just under 400 at the wheels, but am quickly eating syncros. Is it my horsepower or just that syncros tend to go out...?
Whos got the answer?

I'm pretty sure Chris(903WHP) is on stock tranny aside from the addition of the Quiafe LSD since he's an 03'

tough question, as the stress on the tranny has just as much to do with driving habits as it does with WHP.

Horse Power doesn't strees a tranny, torque does and especially low end torque. It is basically the sudden Jolt that kills it like an improper launch. Run as much WHP as you want, it's the Torque that'll getcha.

It's definitely not your WHP that is killing the synchros. Are you asking if the synchros are known to go bad in the 03/04 tranny? Have you not heard of the TSB that was released regarding the synchros? That's how common it is...

ya i believe its more based on how you drive your car.

but the more power you have, the more it hurts, IF you mash on it, or miss a gear. stronger clutch, and how your drive is a key factor in how your tranny lasts.

Dudes, I didn't know there was a service bulletin??? It is my 4th and 5th gear, I put a new ACT clutch in about 3K ago and just started having probs.
Will the dealer replace these under warranty - once they open my hood, they will say "too many mods, you pay out of pocket".....
Is this true...??

One NW dealer replaced my tranny once, and my transfer case a few times all under warranty back on my 03 evo. I remember in 2004 the TC went out after driving from Portland (Matrix) to Seattle in 90 minutes - it failed most likely because of redline 75w90 and running at such a high rpm the whole way back. This was all after getting tune by Shiv of course so there was plenty of freeway fun I remember

PM me for the dealer info if ya like

I have an issue with the 4th - 5th shift myself. I have an 03 with 51k miles and close to 500 hp. Think the dealer will let me slide with this TSB?

No, because a TSB isn't a recall. It's only fixed for free if you're still under warranty, which you are not due to the 51k miles.

Not everyone knows as much as you. I know you are tired of answering teh same questions but maybe someone else may answer as well. Lots of new guys here, lot of them aren't as versed in forum rules as much as you.

Thanks to Warrtalon for posting a copy of the TSB . I'm pretty sure this is my current problem also. Now I have something to work with when I go to the dealer next time.

Yes, and I got the TSB image from someone else, so I can't take credit. I just try to make sure people have the info they need. Unfortunately, if they'd just do a little searching, they'd find more info than they could ever hope for...

Maybe my TSB threads should be stickied somewhere, because everyone could use them.
