Thumbs up Shedding the weight... CF trunk & hood

Decided to shed some weight, and Robi came to the rescue again....

Introducing 'Downforce Composites' Carbon Fiber Hood & trunk. Very happy with overall quality and fitment.

**Mods, Please note this is not 'show-n-shine' material. These are very thin & light construction on purpose. Only reason for these parts was to loose weight.

Please also understand that I weighed all this on my bathroom digital scale, so actual weight will vary a little but I feel these numbers are very real.

Lets just put it this way.. I could pick the hood or trunk up with my pinky finger.

DC Hood Weight: 11 lbs
OEM hood weight: 18.5 lbs

DC Trunk weight: 7 lbs
OEM trunk weight: 22.5 lbs

Oh, and I also put on a JDM evo9 rear bumper & removed the rear bumper support.
another 18 lbs off the car...

total weight shedded: 41.5 lbs

nice, i'm kinda curious what weight of cloth these guys are using, as most people simply lay a ply of carbon over fiberglass (waste).

If money/cloth wasn't an issue, i'd love to make some parts for myself

Have you weighed your car recently? It would be interesting to see what you are down to.

I have these parts manufactured to my Specifications from a very reputible supplier of aftermarket carbon parts...WET layup I just get charged for the extra time (to remove ALL excess resin multiple layers of carbon cloth (no FG MAT) and the entire inside supporting structure in carbon cloth. STUNNING looks without the weight HOOD PINS ARE A REQUIREMENT! (I'm using Aerocatch hood lockers and they ARE SEXY !!!

http://www.aerocatch.com/automotive-home.html

note the locking version....

Not cheap but that's why we drive EVO's and not NEONS!

Pricing less than JDM lighter than JDM and better fit than the JDM parts I have used on EVO's I have worked on....ymmv...

haha, those locks are nice.

why not just bag the parts?

just curious, i think a 1 core one of 18 ounce would more than do the job, just didn't know what other people were thinking.
