Tapping after CAM install
Just installed HKS 272/272 Cams with Fidanza cam gears set at -4 intake/ -1 exhaust, and I am getting a loud tapping. Sounds like the lifters. I thought it was the lifters not having enough pressure, but I waited for 10 minutes and it's still tapping. Can anyone shed light on the situation, please?

I think that the oil pressure dropped from the lifters. While installing the cams I left them sit overnight without completing the install. Seems like the lifters don't have any pressure. Will running the car build the pressure to the lifters, and get rid of the noise?

make sure everything lines up and go drive it around for a little bit. it takes some oil pressure to fill them up, and idle oil pressure isn't enough. my 264/272 combo ticked pretty loud at first too.

This is a must or the lifters will be damaged by the higher lift cam and the lifters fully extending when the cams are removed.

why does it seem that the stock lifters cannot handle these higher lifts at lower rpm... i have built many v8 with 280 dur. 580. lift and still used stock lifters. and never had a prob... maybe its a dsm thing... or is it the interference with the valve seals causing the ticking.. i wonder if anyone still has the ticking when changing the springs say going to ferrera, or revolver.. malibu jack where you at.. he has the revolver springs...

Okay to be clear, if you remove the stock cams and reinstall them you will get ticking.
The design of the lash adjusters does not allow them to collapse like older style lifters. All lash adjusters must be bled before being reinstalled or they will make noise and most likely 1 or 2 will end up blowing their internal seals and collapsing. They will quiet up with RPM because the oil pressure will pump them back up but at idle they will collapse again. This is happening over and over again on here because no one is bleeding the lifters. I wish evomoto.com would change their install guide to include this since everyone is following it.
