MR Vortex Generator - Installed

MR Vortex Generator - Installed

Aerodynamics are alway playing a part in how cars are designed. Both in the racing world and in the lab. With the release of the Mitsubishi EVO MR, the aerodynamics have been changed with a small add on part that is available. The Vortex Generator has shark like fins that help interupt the airflow causing the wing to work harder providing more downforce. We have installed this part on a EVO VIII so you can see the process.

I just grabbed the end, pried/pulled up firmly and they pop out. The install instructions say to use a "special tool" but I didn't.

The vortex generator comes with detailed installation instructions from Mitsubishi. Installation takes about 10-15 minutes if you're taking your time and being meticulous (for example, cleaning off the surface where the part will go).

The only thing I'd add is use the back edge of the roof as a positioning reference, not the weather strip clips because the latter can slide around a bit and not be in the exact same spot on both sides of the car. As the instructions say, peel back about 10cm (4") of the backing on each adhesive strip so that the ends of the backing peek out from under the vortex generator, place the part (make sure the antenna can go on, and make sure both the left and right ends are positioned at exactly the same spot on the car), press down on the ends to stick them in place and gently pull off the rest of the backing. Take your time and do it right because once it's stuck on, it's really stuck on.

I don't get it? Why do you need to remove the black gutter strips?

vtluu: thanks man, i did it the same way

sleet: the gutter strips need to be removed because the VG has tabs that need to get locked under the tabs of the gutter strip, to hold it in place.

Oh ok so you just lift em up and slide the generator under them?

No offense to Vivid, but their pics are about useless for actually documenting what's involved in the install, especially with out any text discussing what the steps are. The other thread that's referenced here (https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=109340), coupled with the helpful pic that burningmoney97 posted above should be THE 'how to/install' thread for this item.

PS - watch out for those drip moulding clips; they can be a *****. I had 1 roof clip (the white ones) bust but stay on the car - the other 3 roof clips came off with the moulding. The gray clips, along the back window, all stayed on the car. Everything seemd to go bact together tight enough, tho'.

What could possibly be so hard about this install that someone could screw it up? You pop the black strips off, lay the VG down with 2 people (just like the pictures), press it down and pop the black strips back in place. If you've ever put ventvisors on a car...it's the same thing.
