yeah its louder than a **** on WOT... the welder, shop and me got a bit creative on making it right... fabricated new hangers, extended one of the tie bars, took a good chunk out of the DP and even fixed it b/c the DP did not fit right and was crooked (this was when just the 3inch DP was untouched and attached to the stock cat)

The butterfly still leaks when closed so a nice layer of high temp gasket maker solved that problem..

and the welder did a great job and made the gap bigger b/w the DP and oil pan... if My Helix DP was not modded I would have thrown it away

Rollaway ,

how much more boost is there when the cutout is open?
what kind of power difference does it make?
what other (if any) exhaust mods do you have?
did you use permatex ultra copper?

I have one of those that I just pulled off my LS1 camaro. it was way in the back of the car and was exposed to much cooler exhaust temps because of the distance and lack of a power adder and it would burn the silicon out somewhat quickly when i drove with it open. its the same brand you have (qtec or something, right?) and it started rattling and got all sloppy so I had to coat the whole motor with black silicon to keep it quiet.

what about adding a pipe after the cutout? you could route the gas and noise toward the side of the car or at least back a bit with a turn-down.

id imagine that the noise in the car is insane with the cutout right under your feet.

were the spacers for those lower braces weren't a requisite of the cutout, or just your downpipe?

Thanks in advance!

Well since coming from a stock exhaust you actually feel the difference in your butt dyno(seriously.. you can really feel the difference when it is closed and opened!!!)..I used the PVC High Temperature Gasket Maker
Yes I do plan on fabricating an additional pipe after the cutout w/ a turn-down but later on since I have been really busy lately.
those spacers were fabricated by the welder and so where the hangers.

And also I kept the gasket b/w the cutout and the pipe stopping the leaks there...I was only able to do that b/c the stock bolts were cut and popped off and longer bolts where used enabling me to use the gasket and the cutout together.

serious fabricating and creative minds helped me get this mod to work in my car... Thanks goes out to Absolute Performance Inc. and their welder Manny

Hey Rollaway,

Can you go over to Evotuners.net and post up about this mod? Someone was asking about doing this very thing, and I think they could benefit from your experiance

Thanks,

Keith

well my butt dyno feels more torque... I have given a few Evo members a test ride and they can agree with me when I say the car is a lot stronger with the cutout open...
