Well set-up ECU-controlled boost

I meant to post this awhile ago but it had slipped through the cracks. I wanted to post this so others can see how to maximize the stock turbo on a Evo 9.

The current 91 oct Evo 9 stock turbo record holder on our mustang dyno is making 339whp. To put this number in perspective, most Evo 9's with a upgraded FPgreen turbo do not hit this number on 91 octane. (usually around 325-350whp for a FPgreen)

The key to this great power is not only a great mod list and well ported bits but it is also the well thought out boost control system on the car.

This Evo is running this system for boost control:

Forced Performance 18psi upgraded actuator
GM 3-port Boost solenoid
Ecu-controlled boost

Which makes this boost plot possible:



Notice it is still over 22psi at 7100rpm. This is also not maxed out as on 100oct it held about 1.5psi more. Without the FP actuator, the ported bits, and stock solenoid instead of the GM 3 port, I usually see max of 20psi at 7k.

The following full mod list for this Evo where all planned out for maximum efficiency with the stock turbo. This allows for the slightly elevated boost levels on 91 oct pump gas with no traces of knock and 100% consistency.

Mods:

WORKS throttle body
3" Turboback exhaust with TP
Cosworth 272 IX cams
HKS exhaust adjustable cam gear
SAMCO IC hoses
Nisei LICP
Denso 720cc Injectors
GM solenoid
Perrin FMIC
Hyperforce System
GST open air filter
Titek tubular 02 housing
Ported stock exhaust manifold
Ported and coated hotside
ARP head studs
FP actuator
Stock evo 9 turbo

woah man those AFR's are really rich

So you think 24psi on 91 is ok?

I am just finalising my ECU/3port now, its a trade of between spiking and slightly slower spool!

All depends on the car setup. Just like buschur with his 30psi on 93octane.

Yes, Glen (76kcfdeng) found a factory plug that you can get at a junk yard that makes plug and play possible. I believe norcalevo.net has a how to.

Also, Razor has always been wanting to make a plug and play setup. Maybe he figured it out with the help of Glen's info.

No, atvalet has a Evo 8 with a FPgreen.

Ita all about perfect boost tuning (correct desired load, error, etc) to have a boost profile that spools quickly and doesnt spike.

Razorlab, Do you attribute the higher boost holding ability (beyond 7K) primarily to the upgraded actuator?

Also, if anyone can post a link to the thread over there about the plug and play solution or a part number that would be great. I'm aware of the pigtail part # already but it's not really plug and play.

Combo of the 3port, actuator and the porting.

3 port's hold more boost than stock solenoids, the actuator holds more boost than the stock actuator, etc etc

Bryan,

This isn't Mr. Fred's Load based boost control? I thought they had different map's/named maps?

What is the Wastegate Solenoid Re/De-Activate Map? I have never seen that one...

(I haven't kept up to speed on all the boost control stuff, even though I have a 3-port in the car waiting to be tuned..)
