Shop Review: AKUMA Motorsports
I had a friend recommend AKUMA to me for my Evo 8. I have a COBB AP and since I found out that the owner, John Shafer, is the guy that designed the software for the AP I figured they would be a good shop to go to.
I currently reside in North Carolina and drove all the way to New Jersey just to have these guys work on my car. I drove up and was going to have them install a new set of Brian Crower 272 cams and do the tune. I was outside their shop at 7 am, after a 9 hour drive, to install my new UICP and LICP myself. John and Evan, one of their chief mechanics, arrived and saw what I was doing and ended up lending a hand. Evan custom fabricated the Injen intake system so as not to need blocked off silicone couplers and welded the ports I wasn't going to be using shut. They installed my cams, the test pipe I was trying to get on myself, and the rest of the intake system.
They tried to get it started and apparently the cam sensor went out. They realized the financial situation this was putting me in. They helped me with the cost by giving me the new cam sensor for free. They also needed to have a boost controller to do the tuning and so they also gave me that for free. Since they couldn't get the cam sensor that day. They helped me get a cheap hotel and drove me over there in John's STI. One of the other guys that works there, Alex, came and picked me up and drove me to the shop the next morning. They finished tuning the car and even gave me advice on what parts I should get next to help optimize my new setup. John even has a way of emailing new maps once you datalog any new parts that get installed so you don't have to go all the back to New Jersey.
These guys were extremely accommodating and super helpful. They did such a great job on the car and even let me crash on the couch while they were working on it. I wish all shops were as great as these guys. I recommend these guys to anyone on the east coast.

Sounds like they have great customer service, congrats.

How can you blame them? Subaru is the best, everyone knows that.

these guys are a great group. Very friendly and willing to help. Met some of them at a dyno day..And that dyno might be the lowest reading one yet..For example during the dyno day a car previously made 378whp on a dynojet and couldnt crack 280whp.
