Thumbs down FP Red 80mm

So i ordered this turbo, got the 80MM housing to PREVENT SURGING or so they say. Tonight doing a pull in 4th gear all i can say is holy surging batman. My car jerked and felt like total crap. 1st,2nd,3rd gear all pull good with no surge but when you go 4th it surges like crazy. I thought the whole reason for the 80mm housing was to help prevent this. I guess i got hosed and fell for one of those great marketing tricks everyone hears about.

If anyone else has this problem or even has this turbo and thinks its the greatest thing ever go try a 4th gear pull and let me know how it goes. Maybe i got a defective turbo or something. I am honestly debating getting rid of this turbo for this reason so someone chime in if you do or dont have this problem please.

There is a big difference between compressor surge, and BOV surge. 9/10 times, you will experience BOV surge rather than compressor surge. Post a vid, i bet you have BOV surge. And yes, Tial's can surge too!

I have a red without the 80mm housing and i dont get any surge from the compressor. i do however get bov flutter which feels kind of like compressor surge. There is a trade off with running high boost and having to run a stronger bov. bov surge. if u drag it and rev out all the gears i bet u get no surge at all. part throttle and in gear pulls at low to mid rpm's will always get some kind of surge whether it be bov or compressor surge. It comes with the territory. Try putting it in 4th at like 6k then step on it. should help alot. or just down shift and rev out third then grab 4th.

I know someone with the same problem, smaller turbos tend to do this.

The only way I have gotten anything that was annoying - is if you put it in 5th and tromp on it at 2500rpm.. I get some fluttering at 3500-4500....
