Sparktech NonCDI Review

A quick backround on the car and mods. i have a 2003 evo 8 that me and my bro worked all last winter on getting the engine up to snuff. wiesco pistons, manely I beams, bc 280's with valvsprings and retainers. Bushcur Intake manifold and TB, we also did some other 70k maintance.we also had the transfer case sent to shep and had the REMisf done and we installed a ACT 6puck with resurfaced stock flywheel. of course it already has the normal boltons: Tbe,Air filter, bov, mbc, and a Hybrid-power intercooler system. we are still on the stock ecu and ignition, running brei7x plugs.

on the stock turbo with meth and 93 we topped out at 360 hp and 386 tq. so this year it was time for an upgrade. after talking with chad at CBRD i upgraded to a buschur kit with the blouch/cbrd 330r. after this i also decided to go with 1200cc injectors incase i planned on going to e85 or just wanted a bigger turbo. with this setup chad did a great job of tunning with the stock ecu and i am now up to 480hp and 410tq on meth and 93. shortly after the tune i started getting missfires once max boost was reached (34psi) and continued to redline. so i regapped the plugs to .019 and it didnt help much. so after trying new plug wires it was apparent that i needed to upgrade my ignition.

so i ordered the Sparktech NonCDi. these guys were very helpfull and answered any questions i had. a+ service. i ended up getting the cop the day before i left for the beach. i installed it and then left for the beach. what a difference, my whole power curve was smoothed out. once my car warmed up it used to try and stall out at idle and it now stays around 1k rpm. i regapped my plugs to .022 and its working great. i will b attending the CBRD dyno day on saturday and hope to c close to 500hp with just this ignition change. i drive my car everyday and the overall feel is greatly improved. i got an extra 50miles on a tank of gas which will help to pay this bad boy off faster.

its a no brainer get this system!

AWESOME Chris...

that custom 330R turbo really rocks with the alky mix... 484whp on our dyno is no joke with just some alky

50 miles per tank more ? It sounds like the latencies were off... I like the Non CDI, don't get me wrong. I wish one could up grade it to the CDI later down the road though.

The non-cdi is a great bang for the buck. We recently heard from 2 customers one making 600+whp and the other is the stock ecu record HP @762whp...both using the non-cdi.

This system originally designed for 550whp, has surpassed it's original design specs
and is now found on several 600+whp evo's

To add some data...the 600+whp car reported using a plug gap of .030 with no misfires and a smooth power curve.

EVOXSI...I would open your plug gaps to .028-.030 and report back with results

Umm, yeah, so, I'm totally eating my words here but, I'm getting an extra 30 miles per tank with the SparkTech, Non-CDI COP. So the list gets longer for me: More power, better drivability, and saves gas. I wish, I would have had this mod so much sooner.

Noob question here, at what point should i upgrade to non-cdi cop? Currently have BR ported exhaust/intake mani, 65 mm TB, Kelford 272, CBRD BBK Full, CBRD FMIC. Currently have the stcok plugs in, but just ordered Denso 1 step colder...no one carries them in AK.

Thanks in advance
