a quick update. I added 1* of timing last night and finally saw 4 counts of knock at 7500 in 4th @ 30psi. I added a hint of fuel there and reduced it to a peak of 2 counts. DLL showed 582awhp so it seems I've just about found the limit of the high timing/low boost strategy. Currently the AFR is a little too rich so I might drop 1* and lean it out to where it should be and see if that helps. If I still don't reach my 600awhp goal or even if I do, I'll drop the timing a bit and add boost to see how it responds.
If you remember I did a g-tech run the other night that showed 128.x mph well I went to the track last night for a shakedown pass and there's a big race in town this weekend so I only got two runs in during the 4 hours.
here's my previous best on the stock shorty/head/hks 280 cams for reference:
60' 1.75 (best ever was 1.65)
1/8th 7.38 @ 94.33 (best ever was 7.36 @ 100)
1/4 11.45 @ 124.81
run 1 last night: rolling out, no launch
60' 2.58
1/8th 8.27 @ 96.20
1/4 12.21 @ 128.91 (much better!)
run 2 last night: rolling out, no launch
60 2.31
1/8th 8.11 @ 96.17
1/4 12.04 @ 127.46 (BISS screw popped out at the top of 4th, massive boost leak)
the logs looked okay, definitely too rich but only 1-2 counts of knock at the top of 4th, very consistent.
I'm looking forward to working on the tune further this weekend, the .82 and coil on plug are here so I might get around to putting on one or both but I have customers coming in town sat/sun so I may be too busy.

Again Mellon, that is awesome man.
Congrats on getting closer to the 130 traps.
Hopefully my br powered evo gets out of the shop today.

here's the latest DLL I made just before hitting the track last night, I didn't adjust the tune at the track at all. This is with 5* over the old setup's tune and a rich AFR. you can see a dip ~ 7500rpm that's where the 2 counts of knock showed up.

The only thing I did was put a bead of epoxy around the outer edge of the honeycomb where it meets the plastic using a q-tip. I've said this before but maybe some people have missed it, this alters the MAF signal drastically due to the air being re-directed towards the center to be metered. My load on the previous setup went from ~330kpa max to 380kpa max which completely wrecked the fuel tune.

What if you put the epoxy behind the honeycomb? Any difference?

that's an interesting idea and it might be the better solution for the maf frequency issue but if that leading edge on the front tries to cave in it might not hold as well.

so, u filled up the holes in the honeycomb in the MAF?
thats what i get from it lol, thats a HUGE diff in load values

Somebody should design a progressive slope anchor system for the maf. Come on mellon, make a cheap plastic slip fitting or something and market it!

The aerodynamic difference between rough epoxy and a smooth piece of plastic would be substancial

585 ..... WOW!!!!! niceeee bro!!! you are getting closer and closer!!! I hope that other method of higher boost and lower timing can hit ~600.. but in all honesty.. 585 is just ridiculous and only 15 away from 600!!! That's awesome that you cut that 30 right in half with 1 more degree of timing!! You are DEFINITELY going to be able to get that 130mph trap (: Keep working on it and I know you will succeed! I can't believe just with the fresh shorty, new cams, and head you are up 85awhp over your previous setup! Too bad you got some knock... but at least you know where the limit is on the lower boost high timing Keep us updated!!!!
