Buschur Racing FMIC Race vs Deluxe reviewed
ok, so the deluxe FMIC from Buschur Racing as done me well... 500+ awhp DLL charts 11.33 @ 125mph traps on the g-tech (no tracks open and no dyno for 6 hours from here) This is on 93 octane pump gas @ 30psi, no meth or anything like that.
Tonight I swapped out the deluxe FMIC for the race FMIC, no fitment issues whatsoever but I don't use the stock crash bar anymore so keep that in mind. it took about an hour to install.
I went out to do a few pulls and found that I had to pull 1* of timing from 3000rpm to 6000rpm and by 7000-8000rpm my AFR went from ~ 11.3 to 11.9 I added a ton of fuel in the map but it's not richening up anymore. I checked the IDC's on my PTE 880's and they are showing 110% now.
The most recent DLL dyno showed 527awhp and the new one showed 545awhp but it was just a tiny peak higher.
I did a single test pull with the g-tech and here are the results of the old fmic vs the new:
new on the left and old on the right:
0-60 3.31 3.15
60' 1.81 1.70 (spinning so badly I had to get off the gas, street tries this time, used drag radials last time)
1/8th et 7.36 7.32
1/8th mph 99.39 96.9
1/4 et 11.23 11.33
1/4mph 130.2 125.07 (best ever was 127.2 previously)
so clearly the car is moving more air than ever at the same boost level and I have a new fuel supply issue, this is a good thing! it means the car is making more power. I'm loving that new best trap!!!!
potential issues are:
single walbro + kenne bell boost a pump is no longer sufficient and I need to go with twin walbro
PTE 880's are too small for the AWHP (the IDC's were already 100%+ prior to the FMIC swap when the AFR was 11.3)
so, I just got off the phone with Buschur and have a twin walbro fuel pump setup and PTE 1000cc injectors on the way. This should finalize my fuel supply for a long time and I can put my kenne Bell boost a pump back on the stealth that's getting a fresh shorty right now and will need it soon anyway
comparison pics:
deluxe, stock, race
btw, please excuse my messy garage, the stealth has been sitting in there and now that it's backed out junk found it's way in there.

Nice mellon....man I am starting to think I am going to have a serious issue with fuel this month. We are basically running 100% same set up except I have alky....but I planned to use 780injectors and one walboro. I wonder how much alky affects all of this because it starting to seem like my injectors are going to be an issue.

Thanks again!
P.S. - I also have this FMIC currently on sale if anyone is interested in taking advantage of the special pricing.

Coming along nicely Chris, I have to say you do the best reviews on this site. Thanks for putting in the time and effort to do it right.

haha yeah it was just a matter of time...I know it sounds crazy but I like to find the limits of x injectors/pump before I upgrade. In hind sight I should have started with the 1000cc and twin pump a long time ago but then I wouldn't have learned anything from this experience. I'm the type person that likes to figure things out for myself so that I can speak more intelligently about the limits of parts in the future and not be one of the masses on evom that simply repeat what someone else said.

I feel like I'm going to be in a similar boat Chris, I just put some 880's on the car and hoping a big shot of meth will help keep the IDC's down. We'll see.

excellent, I can't wait... from the looks of it I might even be able to add a little timing or run a little more boost once I get the AFR back in check. Surprisingly even with the leaner than ideal AFR I didn't get a single knock count beyond 6000 rpm even though it's moving more air now. I guess that's a benefit of the colder temps thanks to the badass BR Race FMIC

I see the tape got on your FMIC too. I had it on mine, but that's because they wrap that bad boy up so good, but the tape is a pain in the ass to get off...
Great review though Mellon!

it all depends on how much meth you're injecting and how much boost you're going to be running. If it were me I would start with low boost and ease it up keeping a careful eye on AFR/knock etc...

VERY nice review as always Mellon Head! That thing looks top notch and is HUGE! Looking at your numbers makes me sad because I am not going to have my setup for at least 3 weeks from now ): Although I did the springs, retainers, valve seals, seats, and new head gasket! And some new gauges so it will be easier to video tape the wideband while driving! I got rid of the mickey mouse (steering wheel column). But yeah.. can't wait to work with you in a few weeks (: I have already recommended a few people to get tuned through you!
Enjoy this beautiful front mount and your wonderful car!

Its amazing that this little evo is making all the f-body owner's in memphis buy new mods.....(ie bigger shot of no2)
Plus a certain gto that continues to add power without traction...doh
Congrats mellon and thanks for taking the time to find the limits of each part.
Now I know what to get when its time for my hta35r kit.

You're doing the same thing that we're going to do. The Deluxe is what we've been running and actually hot-lapped at a few races, but the time has come to get the Race type. We're also close on IDC, so it's either a little more Meth or larger injectors. Thanks for the review Mellon, it helps us make our final decision.
