What is the SE (Special Edition) Model?
The SE was Mitsubishi’s final production run of the legendary 4G63 powered Evolutions. With the new US car requirements for 2007 and the soon to be arriving Evolution X model coming in 2008, Mitsubishi opted not to build a 2007 model. They instead released the SE model as a 2006 which began hitting showrooms in August – September 2006.
What is so “Special” about the SE?
It took Mitsubishi’s ultimate Evolution and gave it all the best features it had to offer. It is essentially a MR without the problematic 6 speed transmission. Features include the aluminum roof and HID combo not available on the GSR, plus ABS and power features not available on the RS. It is a good balance between luxury and performance.
There is no doubt that the IX is the ultimate model with the most evolved 4G63. It includes the larger IX turbo with a broader power curve due to the newly designed MIVEC head. It also includes the ACD (Active Center Differential) drive train with front and rear limited slip differentials and a variable power splitting center diff.
Why Am I Selling?
I recently have been relocated to Kentucky from New Mexico because of an acquisition with my company. Unfortunately, my wife still has one semester of school left in New Mexico to graduate with her RN (Registered Nurse). Due to being so close to finishing and not wanting to loose scholarships, her and my son have stayed behind for now. Therefore I’m paying for two households and need to free up some cash.
Story of the Car:
I purchased the car as a Salvaged Title Car due to theft recovery. The car had been stolen and gutted of interior, all aftermarket intercooler piping and front lip.
The interior is clean with the exception of the passenger door panel that was scratched when being stolen and missing stereo equipment. I replaced the seats with ones out of an Evo IX with less than 5,000 miles so they are mint.
The motor seems to be as strong as ever as does the transmission and differentials. I have not pushed the car as I have not broken in the new clutch which I had to replace. All seals on turbo look great! All fluids were replaced at the same time.
To the best of my knowledge, the car has never been wrecked. All VIN #’s matched when I purchased the car and all body panels are straight. My inspection has left me to believe that the front and rear bumper covers were damaged due to being towed off when the car was left on blocks (BBS Wheels were stolen). On the underside of the car, it appears the car was pulled onto the tow truck on the driver’s side due to minor scratches. This is evident with the front left brake being scuffed up (replaced brake, works fine), dust shields bent up, lower rear control arm slightly bent and a small hole in the floor board (PLEASE NOTE). Although the frame rails are scratched they look straight as well as all the suspension arms. Car drives straight, but could use alignment when tires are replaced.
When the bumpers are off the car, the crash beam and everything else are completely straight. The rear bumper cover has been replaced. I have had a little trouble getting the bumper cover to line up perfectly due to having to use the original covers bracket which is slightly bent ($75 from Mitsuparts.net). Buyer could replace with a new one but I imagine anyone good with a wrench could get it on perfectly as the original was OEM flush. The front bumper has one dent and a few scratches, but I was just planning on adding an aftermarket front lip. There are various minor scratches around the car with large scratches on the side skirt, however the body itself if very straight.
I have described the car the best I could as I do not want to be misleading. I would love to keep it and feel once the few rough edges are polished; it will be a great car. You are welcome to come by and take look at the car at any time. The car has been on the lift at MCS Motorsports (big tuner in the MR2 community) in Las Cruces, NM (my prior location) and they can vouch for the condition of the car and the underneath. Please give them a call at (575) 373-0531 with any questions.
