paint fade....

i bought my 03 in january and the previous owner did not take care of the of the exterior. well it had bad paint fade. i used meguiars rubbing compound, polish and wax and it took off all the fade. now my problem is it seems like if i dont wax this thing every week or so it wants to come back. im not really worried to much bout it since i have some rust spots on the left rear quarter and other areas. should i change wax? or am i just doomed until i get the car repainted in a couple years?

Once the paint is ruined, you can't really reverse it. Try a buffer and some liquid wax and see how it goes..

ill give that a shot. ima switch wax to and see if that makes a difference. i keep calling it paint fade but it wasnt that it was like something with the clear. the clear is still there just wants to get cloudy again. here are some pics of what i mean it looked like. this was after only the the rubbing compound before i used the polish.

What wax are you using? I would definitely try some different waxes out to see if they will hold out longer. Is the car always garaged?

Also, I recommend using a good sealant first, before waxing. I use JetSeal 109 by Chemical Guys. http://www.google.com/products/catal...ed=0CD8Q8wIwAg

This needs to be applied BEFORE wax. If you have wax on there now, remove it first before sealing.

Meguiars Gold Class Carnauba is the wax i use. im gonna try to seal it then wax it with something else. and no its never garage kept.

Wax isn't going to solve the issue. As a first step, use a chemical cleaner to remove the oxidation. Then, polish. Wax is last in line. Refer to the applicable tutorials for specifics:

Just FYI, 03 Rally Reds did not come with a clear coat. Had the same problem.

i used the Meguiars compound to clean off the oxidation then the Meguiars polish then the wax. if thats the case it didnt come with a CC ill talk to my buddys at the body shop i know and see what they can do bout getting it cleared.

The clear looks like it's oxidizing. If this happened to me, my last ditch effort would to gently wet sand the car with 2000 grit sandpaper to get rid of the top layer (just shaving a mm-ith) off. Then, i'll compound it, glaze it, polish it and then wax it. If there's enough clear, this might work and it'll last for years.

If the clear isn't salvageable.. then you'll still end up respraying so it wouldnt hurt to learn/try something new.

Before anyone flames me on the sanding part.. I've been working in the auto body/refinish industry for 4+ years.. )

I agree; the paint seems to be oxidizing. As a first step, I'd suggest using a strong chemical cleaner: Klasse All in One, Duragloss 501, Werkstat Prime Strong. Wet sanding is a last resort.

i might try that. i hit it with a rubbing compound again and it looks beautiful. its looking like every 4 or 5 months i will have to do that.

I agree with Klasse AIN, like FJF suggested. I used it on an oxidized car before after I polished the paint. It never came back.

I'd suggest having someone experienced measure your paint and do some corrective work. It shouldn't be that often that you need to compound it as long as the paint is taken care of.
