I'm in the market for a buffer, and I've purchased ones from Wal Mart and AutoZone that have completely sucked. What RPM range should I be looking for in the buffer?

I saw this and I liked it, but what do you suggest?

You might want to consider a complete kit like this one.

Hi Phil, I'm looking for a few suggestions. I'm almost starting from scratch as far as washing/paint care/detailing supplies go. I drive a 2003 Apex Silver Evo. I'm right at 90k miles. I would rate the paint condition as pretty decent considering its Mitsu paint, its silver, and its 90,000 miles. About the only thing I have that I know I don't need to replace is my new micro-fiber waffle weave drying towel. I'm in the market for a good car wash, glass cleaning supplies, and wheel cleaner. Also I think its time to clay, polish, and wax. As far as wax goes I have no problem in waxing every four to six weeks.(I'm married with two young daughters and all three are red heads. A reason to stay outside for five hours? Yes please). I'm not looking for the most expensive thing out there, nor the cheapest. Sorry for the long winded post. I love my car and I don't half-@ss, or cheap out on the mechanical aspects so I've decided I shouldn't half-@ss the paint/interior care either. Thanks for your time.

Bryan,

Did you want to pick up a porter cable kit, clay bar, etc to step up to the next level?

I would love a porter cable but its not in the budget at this point. So I guess I m stuck on the ground floor. I actually have a brand new clay bar kit that I got through a weird set of circumstances. I know that I'll only achieve a certain level of detail and perfection till I go all in as far as equipment and supplies, but I'm alright with that. Thanks for the fast response.
Bryan

Something else too. I cannot seem to get my windshield clean. Either its streaked or hazed. I just never get it right.

how bad is the paint swirl wise?

1. Wash - use your choice of wash, if you don't have anything Lusso Auto Bath or Adam's Car Wash

2. Clay - you mentioned you have something.

3. Polish - if your doing it by hand your only going to get so far - Einszett Paint or Adam's Swirl Remover/Adam's Revive Polish

4. Wax - you mentioned you have something.

LMK if that helps.

Paints looks good with no swirl marks. So I guess I'll just skip the clay bar and polish. I don't have a wax right now though. What would you recommend as far as a wax that lasts, say, four to six weeks between applications?

removing bumper scuffs

hi, basically i have some scuffs from parking and getting too close to a fence, I was wondering if you can do something like this other detail shop can do

www.gorilladetail.com/paint_services.html

Mine is something similar to the jag on in the sample photo on the middle of that page but only the scratched area is smaller, like 2 small quarters's size on the lower passenger bumper. I can provide photos if needed, but just want to know if that is something you guys can do also. (trying to avoiding driving 4 hours if i can)

thank you

you can let me know by either PM or email or reply here.

ive got an 05 lancer with ~40k mi. its never seen a buffer/polisher before. I plan on giving it a good detail in the near future. wash/clay/polish/sealant. i plan on buying a flex as well.

my question is this, my entire driver side has been repainted and poorly buffed, leaving tons of swirls throughout, it is noticeably dull when compared to the passenger side. what sort of polishes would you recommend? I am leaning toward the poorboys line, or menzerna.

I know its difficult to say when you haven't seen the paint, but would i need the extra strengh of poorboys SSR3/menzerna power gloss to begin with? could you put together a custom package for me?

I apologize if this has been asked before, but what is the best way for me to get rid of waterspots on the windshield? I have tried all kinds of glass cleaners, but they won't go away.

I'm no expert, but in the past the only thing that has worked for water spots is CLR.
And then use something to get the CLR off, then windex that.
