Bmw m1?
BMW is thinking about an entry class M series.. interesting..
Quote:
After driving the BMW 135i, we always wondered if BMW would do an M version of the 1-Series. According to sources that spoke with AutoCar, BMW is looking at a new M model that would fit below the M3 based on the next-generation 1-Series.
“We’re conscious that our existing customers are gravitating towards larger and more expensive models such as the X5/X6 M,” an M division source told the UK publication. “We’re looking at ways to attract new customers to the brand, and an entry-level model is part of those plans.”
BMW M division’s head Kay Segler is a huge supporter of the car, that could have a starting price of around £32,000 ($47,128 USD).
The source said that while a competitor to Mercedes-Benz SLS and the Audi R8 would be greatly appreciated by the M engineers, the priority right now is to “offer a more affordable model underneath the M3.”
The car is likely to be based on the next-generation 135i and BMW may revive the M1 badge for the car.

I hope not. A lot of people became dienchanted with the M1's looks when their reliability problems started to rear their horrifyingly expensive heads.

50k invoice for sadan and 53k invoice for coupe. Even if you could get m1 for 40k invoice, 10k extra would be well worth it considering you are already spending 40k + on a car. Just too many options at that price range, which are a much better buy

You're forgetting that there are other aspects than just price. Different curb weights, different overall sizes, different interior layout, etc.

imo, its a shame the "M1" moniker will now refer to an entry-level M-vehicle, rather than a flagship ...

some local guys (who for some reason show up at every other of our local Evo meets) have the 335i (coupe or sedan), which with ~$5-6k in mods, outruns the M3 at the track and the 1/4 strip (at least according to those same guys)... so unless u absolutely need to see that badge (or want that slightly diff interior), there is no need for a "common person M-bmw"

M1 Homage concept that surfaced over a year ago or so. Gorgeous. Ugly to the avg. person that judges a car by looks, but this thing captures the original M1 in a modern version.

It was supposed to be if they come back with it, hopefully they dont botch it and make the 1 series in to the M1 and they come out with something similar to the picture.
