Cartek scams Z06 Owner :(
Here are two videos I just saw about Cartek scamming a Z06 owner on a $26,000+ engine build. Don't know if anyone here uses them or if you've seen this video yet, but I just wanted to put it out there.

DAYUM --- That sucks! But I'm glad the owner documented everything so well.
Interested to know how this is resolved . . .

Said that they would do something like that and think they can get away with it... So people spend lots of money because they want the job done right the first time not to be scammed like this Suck that this is happening That why I would like to send my car to a very very good shop or do the work my self.

Cliff notes? ls1tech.com already deleted the thread. Would be interesting to see the other side of the story.
I saw the dyno comparison video earlier today and thought that the Z06 owner's claim was a bit exaggerated since he was getting results similar to what might happen if you compared a DynoJet to a DynoDynamics Dyno. Comparing results from different chassis dyno's is really a pretty futile exercise.
The other claim that they charged him for work/parts and installed others is certainly a valid one though, if that's what in fact happened.

I dont know, a little more reading tells the rest of the story. Keep in mind that most of the time in the performance automotive world you pay to play, and there are no warranties if the engine blows up at the track - That's tough. Yet Cartek replaced his engine anyhow. I wouldnt be so quick to lay blame on them.
As far as the second set of pistons only being 4.125 instead of 4.130, (428cid vs 429cid) why would you bore a new block in the first place. Especially on a engine that your doing warranty replacement on that you didnt have to. Same thing goes for the lifters.
Z06 Owner says
"After 1 month and 1 track day I had no oil pressure, they warrantied the engine and gave me the car 2 months later..(theres a whole thread on that problem I had) Originally they claimed it had 575rwhp, and I had it dynoed at another shop and it was off by 50hp."
Cartek response as quoted by owner.
"we warrantied the motor when we didn't have to because we are a new company now.. We did you a favor. We rebuilt your motor with comprable parts"

His receipt for the engine work clearly says "24 month 24k mile warranty"
It is sadly funny that this is what is transpiring. In the other videos, and threads, you can clearly see the list of parts he was charged for and paid in full for. Then after their "warranty repair" after 1 month of being on the road, you can see what parts really got put into the engine.
Im sorry, IF any of the vendors on here sold any of us a complete built engine with top parts, then after a month of running they warrantied a rebuild and used cheaper parts to fix it, there would be a MAJOR stink about it.
What carteck did was fraud, and they took advantage of a good customer. They got caught and admited they used crap parts, but wont fix the problem.

Ok first of all I'm just average joe internet Evo owner. Not affiliated with anyone involved. Something about the videos and then his post just didnt seem right and I read a little more. Anyhow my point is there are 2 sides to every story and the whole premise of his claim seems fishy to me. The dyno video is almost laughable. No 2 Dyno's are identical and why would the owner think the engine should make the same power as built after beating on it? All engines can lose power under heavy use.
I disagree with you, If you buy a race engine and beat on it for a month and then blow it up at a track event from oil starvation I think you'd have a hard time getting anyone to warranty it. 2yr 24k normal use probably doesnt include racing. Probably the only reason why they did honor that warranty was because he bought such a large build from them and they felt obligated.
And if a shop did help you out and replace the engine that you destroyed, would you complain if they used Comp cams lifters instead of Morel lifters? I think not.
The piston size issue is the most retarded part of this story and that's what got me to thinking this whole claim is more slander than reality. Why would you put in .005 oversize pistons in a fresh new block in the first place? I know if I bought a new engine I would run it standard bore first and then oversize if it needed to be freshened up later.
