z06 is going to be $65k. for that price you can get yourself a shelby 500 and a used Evo.

For $23k you can get a nice slightly used 03 cobra (with less than 10k miles)... spend about $600 for a pully belt and chip (or reflash) and you basically have as much hp (not as much torque) as the new $40k Shelby.
o well.... the new shelby looks awesome to me and the shifter is probably much nicer since it isn't two miles away like in the older mustangs.... plus I hear the steering is 2.5turns to lock which is way better than the truck like steering of the old mustangs.

Regardless, the GT500 is a higher platform to work from with such a ridiculous price for that much power.

The real question is if it will handle the corners, or just some bimbo hot chicks?

The new car is a much better platform and the looks and interior are much better (IMO on the appearance). If you want to look strictly at cheap power, why not start with an old 5.0?
And for those that don't want to deal the the pullet, belt and ecu flashing, they get a faster car from the factory.

All depends on how much $ you want to spend. I would think an old 5.0L would probably be worn out or turn unreliable due to age. 03 Cobra's are pretty reliable and well into the 11's with a pully and drag radials.
Kind of like an Elise....i just can't bring myself to buy one... it is about 1% faster than my Evo........ why would i want to spend $20k more than my evo is worth to just barely go faster.
I am actually on the list to buy a 2006 Shelby....we'll see how it all works out. I like the looks, power, shifter and steering ratio much better than my 03 cobra....so far so good.... not sure I want to dump $40k into a mustang though.?

I am not sure how a live axle is supposed to be a handling benefit? I know it is stronger, and better at the dragstrip, but live axles went out of style long ago. And only a 3-link? Good god, even my (originally) 140 hp Impulse had to be upgraded to a 5-link because the earlier 3-link live axles handled like crap. Although cars can obviously be engineered to handle well with a live axle, I just don't see how that could be considered a benefit over other designs. Or why they might use it on a brand new design.
