i made the same choice, i went with the 3, insurance is hella cheap, its a sedan, interior is realllllllly nice, and i think its better inside and out. I havent had any problems with it so far.

Lol, its not my choice. I think that a ralliart is a MUCH better choice than the two that he has chosen, but I don't want to present him with my opinion. He just asked for more facts and experience from other people.

Both are great cars for the money.
Some pros and cons for each.
Mazda makes fun-to-drive cars. I think toyota may have forgotten how to.
The 3 is high quality inside and out so don't worry about that.
I like the 3s in this comparison but If he is comparing the base 3 (without the 2.3 liter 160 hp engine) or if the 3s spec'ed out how he wants it is alot more then I say go with the TC.
Let us know how much performance matters to him.

don't know if this has been said, but one great reason NOT to get the 3 (and i've driven my buddy's plenty)...
the seats suck. too stiff, and the fabric is... ugh. it feels like thin tough nylon weave. check out the ralliart seats for comparison, those are some soft and supportive seats.

Toyota induces as about as much automotive enthusiasm as a coffee table.

the TC. The back seats recline, and the headrests on the front seats come off. You then recline the front seats all the way back, and you have an awesome get-laid-at-the-drive-in bed. they are comfey too, my girlfriend and I took it for a test-sit. The massive sunroof is sweet too.
Honestly, the TC just has a lot of fun features. I wouldn't look into the scion aftermarket stuff though, they want 600 for a CAI.
