It looks like the driver put two wheels off and the loss of traction caused the spin. People need to leave their egos at home when they go to the track. It doesn't matter what you drive - it doesn't make you invincible. You have to know your own limits.

Wow, that video is horrible. A couple of points:
  • Put a wall next to the staging lanes.
  • Buy track day insurance .
  • If you're a passenger in my car then NEVER ever touch my steering wheel. I don't care if you're an instructor or I'm being a dumbass, you never touch the steering wheel.
  • Don't pull off course so you can tape your buddy's wreck.

wow from the video, it does look like it was an easy mistake... its terrible though that those cars were staging so close without any barrier. they were asking for trouble.

That's how many instructors instruct. Some people are fine with it, it makes me uncomfortable though.

That just doesn't seem right... I learned to drive from my parents who always said NEVER do that. I could only imagine what would happen if I were to do that to someone I was in the car with... It seems pretty rude too.

just looks like he was looking ahead into the turn or not paying attention and drifted off to the grass and then tried to save it by turning out of it. and the rest is history after that.

That is an incredibly stupid manuver by the track day organizers....
This has nothing to do with track organizers. It is how the track is built. Usually, this course is used by motorcycle clubs as there is nothing to hit (safer for them that way). Some car clubs do rent this track as it is fun and more challenging than the other courses.

Not sure about this event or club, but I know PCA has a strict rule as to who goes on this track. It is only for advanced groups. No beginners, period. Having driven that course, I agree with their policy.

I've ridden that course many times at Pocono and theat is the configuration. I've even crashed in the corner coming on to the front straight at over 80mph and never got close to the grid. The line goes back the other way so you would be moving away from the grid and if you went off before you wouldn't get close. In this case thedriver went of to the right and if he kept going no problem, then he crossed the track and went off to the left into a big infield, no problem, tehn he came back across the track and hit the cars on the grid. There is a time to lift and let the car come to a stop, 6 tires in the dirt my be just cause.

As for the instructor grabbing the wheel, the guy pulled off the track IN THE CRASH ZONE to get a good camera angle and was at risk himself. This was a beginner group and I could easily see someone target fixating and creaming him too. It looks to me like stupid people travel in pairs.

AWD is not idiot proof, from the look of the video it looks like the driver of the evo swung out so that he could cut in sharper, but he swung to far out and hit the grass, then tried to pull it back out which made him oversteer into the staging lane and into the cars. the reason that there is not a wall there is because in most instances of loss of control in that corner, the dirver would understeer into the grass on the other side, away from the staging lane

Ok, that makes sense, verbal commands work pretty well though... it sounded like they failed that time, hence the girl grabbing at the wheel.

I dont know, but I can guarentee you doing that to me will earn you a Mushroom cap.

Heres my .02

The guy was driving beyond his limits from what the Lotus owner posted, saying that he had driven off track twice the day prior to the event. As someone else said, how did he lose it? He wasn't even at the turn yet. AWD is not idiot proof I do agree, and some people should just not be given the prvilage to drive such cars.

Bottom line, that movie made Baby Jesus cry.
