EVOs take top honors at Oregon Rally Cross #8 & Championship

It was a great weekend for rally and a great day for competition. Several EVOm members came and attended the Rally School this weekend and after tearing up the student graduation course yesterday, the EVOs came back out in force today setting both the Top Time of the Day and the best overall time for the win.

Cody Crane came by to drop off my HNR that he borrowed for Wild West and was stuck into the Wingless EVO 8 and proceeded to set some blistering lap times. He and I swapped the overall lead for 3 laps, on which I spun and stalled my car, loosing about 15 seconds.

The final lap, I blistered the earth turning a 1:15 lap and setting the top top of the day, tearing the driver's front tire completely off the rim about 75% of the way through the lap. It stayed with me for a couple of corners and then left the car entirely, coming to a rolling stop a couple hundred yards away. Despite the lack of any rubber on the car, I did manage to finish the lap and the 1:15 held as top time for the remainder of the day.

But, the stall cost me and Cody slipped by for the overall win by 8 seconds. Grrrr...

Oh well, it happens

the GOOD news is that 4 of the top 5 finishers today were Mitsubishis!!!!

1st EVO 8
2nd Galant VR4
3rd EVO 8
5th Galant VR4

Very Nice!!!

As for the Championship...

I unfortunately missed 3 of the 8 events and that hurt, but still managed to finish 2nd for the Championship. Whew. 1st was my good buddy Todd and his Gallant Galant VR4 who did run 3 of the events in my EVO. As I said, I finished 2nd and a DSM driven by Rob Rowe finished 3rd.

Another Mitsu Podium Sweep

Great job everyone. 2009 was the year of the Mitsu and 2010 will be event better!!!!

Some photogs out at the event, still waiting on pics. I will post them as soon as I get them.

The event was a lot of fun! Sticking Cody in an evo for the first time ever was one of the most amusing things i have ever done. The kid can drive the wheels off of anything, and like Scott he did. It was a bad day for drivers side front tires on evos! Also like Scott Cody turned in his best time and the best raw time (he hit 2 cones) of the day on the run where he took the tire of the bead.

Mitsu's really represented yesterday with The 2 silvers evo's, Todd's gvr4, and Blake Lind's freshly converted rwd 1g Talon (broke an axle on the last corner of the graduation runs)

Cody left the course with a solid "hiss" coming out of a still inflated and still very much on the rim, but certainly leaking tire.

I came off the course on a completely bare rim with a course working running after me with a tire over his shoulder.

One thing I don't mess around with is taking a tire off the bead. If you haven't seen it yet, this is the TWO EVENTS AGO "off the bead" experience:

This event's tire mishap looked very similar, only NO tire at all. LOL!!!
