SSTF in the rear diff?
I'm posting this in the local section since this may just pertain to the local dealership (Don Herring Irving).
I purchased fluids to do the 30k service myself. My understanding is that transfer oil is DiaQueen LSD, the rear diff gear oil is DiaQueen LSD and the rear diff torque transfer oil is ATF SP III, but the guy at the parts counter swore that he always uses SSTF for the rear diff gear oil in the MR and wanted to sell me what looked like a gallon of the stuff. This made no sense to me so I went home to confirm that it was LSD in the service manual and just bought another quart of LSD oil.
Has anyone else heard this before?

I HIGHLY suggest you do it sooner rather than later; at 29k miles your stock paper filter is going to be very full of particulate and the fluid will be starting to get very sludgy, especially if you drive the car like it was meant to be driven. Those are very expensive transmissions to repair/replace, frequent maintenance is far cheaper and will help it remain very reliable.

I second the recommendation for more-frequent SST filter changes. I spent a lot of time trying to track down a filter-only replacement item- the part # in the system includes both the filter and casing, and runs ~$125- but wasn't able to locate the appropriate part # during the time I owned my SST.

Those SST filters should be changed every 15k miles...with easy driving.. 7500 hard driving. This ensures long long life and trouble free operation. I changed my fluid every two filter changes
