Since I compete w/ the car 2-4x/mo all year round, I need something that can last @ least a full year, or more--I'm hoping...
One other thing abt the Evo. It has not burned 1 drop of oil since I've owned it & I'm 'on it' every time I drive. Most impressive

Yah, and if worst comes to worst on the exedy twin it only costs like $200 to replace the plates once you have worn them out, you dont need to buy a new unit.
thats wierd with the oil, my friend blew his engine with 3000 miles on it because it burned up all the oil

Hey Warrtalon, maybe I'll get to compete against you finally here in S.D. After finishing 2nd behind Navid last year, I'm hoping to do better this year.

I've got an ACT 6 puck sprung clutch myself. It handles Friday night drags all night with no fade and no degradation. Consistent 60' times in the high 1.7s, on street tires. I absolutely hate the clutch when I'm stuck in rush hour traffic, but if performance and reliability is more important than streetability, it seems pretty good. I also installed an ACT flywheel at the same time.
Also, probably obvious to anyone serious about this sport, but if you're still running one of the early USDM Evos with an open front diff, upgrade! I put a Quaife front LSD in my '03 Evo and it not only makes the car faster around the autoX course, but you really notice the difference (in a good way) when you're just driving on the street at 7 or 8 tenths.

JB, are you doing both events out there?
I'm hoping to hit the drag strip while I'm there. You mentioned "Friday Night Drags." Is that at Fontana, and is Fontana the only track? From seeing others post their times, it seems it's not the fastest track (elevation and octane), but it is probably still a lot better than 6000' where I am.

Last year I only did the S.D. Tour. I'd love to do the ProSolo as well this year, just have to see how it fits with family commitments. El Toro is either an overnight stay, or a really long commute. The S.D. Tour is much easier, being only about 16 miles from my house.
The Friday night drags I'm talking about are the ones in San Diego which are actually held in the same parking lot where the Tour is held. Only 1/8 mile, slightly uphill, and obviously won't be held on the weekend of the Tour.

Ah, 1/8th mile is of no use to me anyway. Fontana is open for test'n'tune the Friday before the Tour, so I might try that.

I am an STi guy but I had a question for the experience SM or (BSP) EVO driver.. I am trying to figure out more about the roll centers and instant centers on the EVOs and I wanted to know if anyone had taken the time to figure it out on the EVO yet. From the ride heights I've seen it almost looks like your roll centers are below the ground plane. Can anyone shed light on that?

On some cars, there are explicit changes made to raise the roll center, such as moving the strut upper mount location with camber plates or modified tie-rod end's (whiteline roll center kit).
In general though, yes. Many excessively low cars have the front roll center blow ground.

thats not what i meant, i thought it looked cool but like every time they turned the wheel all the way to park in a space at grid, it would like rip the body panels off and they had to retape them on with painters tape. thats the kinda stuff i meant. tunnels m3 is 1000x nicer

The one issue w/ the ACT is that it doesn't like to be 'speedshifted' & if the clutch isn't fully disengaged on the floor, it'll miss shifts.

Yep, I had an RS front LSD put in almost immediately after getting the car.
evobeatsti--thx for the tip on the 2win-disc, but I've heard you'l need to replace those discs relatively often.

we did 3 pro's and ~20 events with 3 drivers in the car plus what ever Andy Lieber did on the clutch (exedy twin SD) before it died. Replacing the plates would not have fixed it though, it was warped badly.
