Unless I'm missing something, I think that an Evo running F Prepared needs to run a 52mm restrictor on the turbo inlet. (17.10.C.2 in the 2007 rule book.)

X Prepared doesn't have the same engine/drivetrain rules as the rest of Prepared -- it's hard to imagine anything you could do to the engine/turbo/transmission/differentials which would be illegal in XP.

Ahh . . . good info. Not familiar with FP, but I know the XP rules as we ran my car in XPL at Nats a few weeks ago. It was so tempting to rip out the interior, headlights, tail lights, door skins, door glass, mirrors, etc Wednesday night so she could have every advantage, but we ran it in full SM trim due to my laziness. Still good enough for 3rd behind a couple great lady drivers (Patty Tunnell-M3, and Barbara Beecher-GT3RSR). Hell, the magnesium RSR intake manifold on the GT3 cost as much as my brand new EVO IX!!

Are you going VCD instead of the ACD?

Buying Silencer's Moton's?

Check the rulebook on the parts listed.

i think the mustache bar and cross member are legal, since the rs doesnt have power windows or sound deadening doesnt that mean that i dont need it also?

yes i am going with the quafe VCD and hopefully silencers motons which are both legal right?

XP seems more like a natural progression for an SM evo looking for more allowances than FP.

Tunnell won the class (without a fight) this year on what looks like his "XP converted" SM Bimmer. I believe that the evo is a capable platform in XP as the class allows to attack some of the evo's flaws like its "tank-weight".

I wouldn't be so quick to ditch the ACD. have you thought about an aftermarket ECU (reprogrammable) instead?

Technically, UD/BD to the RS configuration means installing the exact RS hardware, or duplicating the exact RS configuration.

So for example, for the rear windows, you'd need to install the entire RS OEM window crank mechanism.

Capable, maybe, but imagine that XP could also allow the top small two-seater SM2/ASP/SS cars to play as well -- RX7, Porsche GT2/GT3, Elise/Exige...

I love my Evo, but I also know a little about the FD RX7 (owned one for 10+ years) and I suspect that given equal preparation and budget and the XP ruleset, the RX7 would have a noticeable advantage.

POWER:
i am keeping this the same maybe with upgraded valve springs to rev to about 8000rpms get a map for 112 oct vs the 100 i used this year to try to up low end power and have my tuner smooth out the powerband
DRIVETRAIN:
I am doing clutch and flywheel as i am still on the stock units if anyone has advice on a daily drivable light combo let me know

I am tossing the acd and going with a quaife diff, supposed to be quite a bit lighter and helps the cars handling of course

SUSPENSION:
well in my search for shocks, i think i have found a set of used moton club sports that i want to pick up. i would take those do a test and tune day or two with my local race craft engineer and see where that can get me. plus my local guy has some different suspension geometry parts that we are going to test out.

WEIGHT:
as mentioned, light clutch, flywheel, diff. probably going to take out all i can think of, on the list is still putting on the ams mustache bar, maybe a new front cross member bar. removing motors for rear windows, removing sound deadening etc to try to get the car as close to the 2750 lb mark as possible (yes i am getting serious this year but my realistic goals for weight are about 2900lbs)

DRIVING:
i got myself a codriver. he was a stock champ in utah for 2005 and 2006 and this year in his stu sti he has been running with me. he drove my car for the first time last weekend and although i was about 4 seconds ahead of the rest of the utah sm pack (46.6 compared to 51's and 52's) he beat me by 1.2 seconds his first time driving my car! ( he ran a 45.4) hopefully this co-driving experience can make me better.

WHEELS:
i am definately going with 285/30/18 all around. i think 18x10.5 up front with a 18x9.5 in the back i think i will stick with kuhmo v710 since i already have a contengency check with them. if anyone has any ideas on good reasonably priced wheels in these sizes PLEASE let me know i want to find something different than your typical nt03+m's. i love the rpf1's but i dont think they come in the right size

what are all of you guys doing in the off season? who all is planning on going to nationals again next year?
i also want to do lots of stuff this offseason

i'm looking to get rid of the ACD and probably get the GSC 40/60 to save some weight, as well as a titanium exhaust to help w/ the weight, i've even tossed around the idea of getting the AMS CF roof if i dont end up selling my coilovers for new ones

i also plan on making the jump to some 18's for next season, as far as power goes, i'm probably going to stay w/ the 20g9-5 and just get a good solid tune, something i didnt have all this year, and i'll have a race gas map setup for those big courses, everything local is small/technical,

as far as driver goes, i've got a lot of work to do in that department, hopefully i can get someone locally to co drive w/ me at some of the local events so i can hopefully learn more

i dont know if anyone runs one, but i've thought about messing w/ a front sway bar, i guess ralliart recommends a 26mm up front and a 24mm for the rear, but thats for track use, but i wonder if that setup would be helpful for autox

there are some crazy porsches in xp along with a turbo lotus elise that is fully prepped. do you know what the funny thing at nationals was? tunnel in his fully prepped xp car ran a 41.0 on the first day i think the porsche in 2nd ran around a 41.8. Navid, in his street mod sti, completely street mod legal, not gutted or anything (was plannin on running street mod but his car blew and couldnt get if fixed until it was too late to run street mod) ran a 42.0. on that same day, BSP ran and the leader in bsp (an evo) with full interior etc ran a 41.6! that is .6 off of winning XP in a BSP car, he would have taken 2nd or 3rd in XP in a BSP car!!

1. i think titanium exhaust is too much $$$ for the weight, you can run with an exhaust that ends right after the drivers seat and save the same weight.

2. CF roof isnt legal for sm if i remember correctly, since you have a sunroof however, i would try for an rs roof if you do replace it

3. sounds good

why would you say to stay with the acd? taking it out saves 40 lbs of weight from the front automatically...

plus i might do balace shaft eliminators

You are right, but the clas is still at it's infancy (at least in term of car prep.). The winning BMW had 2 seconds lead over the rest of the field in a car that is mostly an SM car.
My point is that a competitive SM trim evo could easily be converted into a dominant XP machine at the current level of the class. I would not sleep on the potential of the evo as it could become a serious contender in the less rule-restricted classes such as XP.

Suspension: just going to change the settings from a road course setup to an autox setup

Driver: probably only going to do Tours and Pros with maybe a few local events after changes to the car for practice
what do you mean with ti internals? where do you get that and what are the benifits? also what tours and pro's are you thinking of? i want to hit at least 3 next year... why limiting your local participation? i wait all week to get into the drivers seat lol.

my car weighed 3030 in impound the last time through with just a tad over reserve light on gas

oh now i see, for weight reduction for next year you are going to run on a treadmill? probably the most cost effective per lb!
