Reverse problem (SST)

ok, the 1st time it happened i thought it was a fluke. but 5 days later it happened again.

when i'm driving along (any speed), gently stop, and put the evo in reverse, it will engage 99.9% of the time. but, lately (both times within last 2 weeks) the LCD will display the "R" symbol but it will flash. as it's flashing, the car feels like it's in neutral with no gears engaged. i press the gas and it just free revs!

i would put it in park, then go to reverse again and it will work. what's up with that? only happened twice so far.

1.5 months ownership, 2700KM. brand new 08 EVO X MR. i don't do aggressive driving, never tracked, no mods (well, i have mudflaps) and never launched! should i be worried?

It's normal for SST, happened to me many times and I already lost counts lol! Reverse did not engage everytime if I'm in hurry. I change my driving habbit and not treat it as normal auto tranny. I make sure car is fully stop before I shift into R gear.

With any automatic trans, wait a few seconds then shift into any gear, sometimes with reg autos if you shift too fast the trans does not like it and it seems it is not fully into gear (almost like it is slipping), seems it needs to catch up.

Reverse sometimes doesn't fully engage on my GSR lol, I believe both transmission have no dedicated reverse gear, they use 1st and 3rd gear for reverse... I'm assuming the SST could be the same???

Totally different, your GSR has the standard manual trans, the MR only has the SST, semi automatic style of trans.

I understand that, what I'm saying is it might not have a dedicated reverse gear like the GSR, my GSR has gave me issue's going into reverse... Hence the reason I said it may be set up similar to the manual due to it being an automated manual transmission...

I guess it was there for a reason. Imagine driving at 155mph and you accidentally press reverse, it would be devastating to you and the car and the tranny will explode just because.... somebody tried to do just that.

try this however if it will work, driving reverse then with braking turn the car, stop and drive forward, accelerate. I saw it in james bond
