I have an Evo X Mr w/ ~1k miles on it..

Anyway, I hear a high pitched whining noise coming from the passenger engine bay side. I was under the impression this is just the SST transmission and something I'll have to get used to. The reason I am under this impression is because of the information in this TSB (TC-SST TSB (info, not problems))

Quote:
Transmission Gear Noise - As mentioned, 2 gears are always engaged at the same time. This means that the transfer gear is in contact with 2 gears and turning 2 shafts within the transmission. This multiple gear selection creates additional noise heard from the transmission when driving. Because gears are always pre-engaged in N, there is a certain amount of N gear rattle.
The reason I am writing this is I want to make sure it's normal. Mine is more of a "whine" and less of a "rattle."

Another thing I heard it could be is an engine while from a weak ground on the radio coming through the speakers. I've heard this sound since the day I purchased it, and since then I have installed an aftermarket Nav system. i made sure to ground it well so I don't think it's that but maybe I didn't ground it as well as I thought.

So what do you guys say?

I don't have a constant whine in mine but I do notice a descending whine when I am slowing down to a stop occasionally. I think it might be the transmission or maybe one of the differentials?

I have a MT, so I don't have your first issue but I have the second.

I'm interested in the engine noise through the speakers, my X does this especially when I plug my MP3 player into the AUX plug. Any suggestios to fix this?

I don't have two issues if you read carefully it's one issue with two possible ideas for what might be the cause. I'm trying to figure out which if any...

sell normaly you defenitly have two different noises, your drivetrain noises, and then electrical audio noises, you should be able to tell the difference. In my case it's an audio system issue, but I have not performed any audio system upgrades. I've actually taken it to the dealership, but it's intermittent so it's hard to catch.

I suppose I could unplug my radio and see if I still hear the noise. I don't think it's coming through the speakers... but again it's only one noise. So not sure how it could be two issues. ;-P
