They way over-thought this. I can't figure out why they won't just give us a Supra type car again at an affordable price? I don't need it to look like something Luke Skywalker would drive.

^I dunno what that is, but it doesn't look like an Inline-6 to me.

A TT Supra's retail price in the 90's was ~$45k. $45k in 1995 ~= $68k now. Totally reasonable for it to be $80-120k, especially if it's a GT-R fighter.

There is website called "Supra FT1 Forum," where you can find some relevant insight into this project.

Summary:

1) FT1 is the next Supra. Calty Design Research used 2000GT and Supra cues for FT1's exterior; Calty gave Akio Toyoda and other high-ranking executives a presentation back then, including a key part taking about Supra clubs across the world and how the fans want it back. Akio and his executives deeply resonated with the idea.

2) The next Supra will be internal combustion engine propelled. FT1 Forum people figured that the future Toyota-BMW Z5 hybrid is actually a different project.

3) 5.0L 2UR-GSE naturally aspirated engine is likely to go into the Supra. GT6 game's FT1 gives an output of 518hp after the oil change. Toyota may also have a twin-turbo V8 or V6 engine under research for the Supra.
I'm uncertain why they are not preparing an inline 6. Maybe they want to keep it hush-hush; maybe they don't have time to develop a new inline 6. Personally, I'm okay with a $50K Supra with N/A V8 and a $70K Supra with V8TT. I even think it's a good idea for a "pace car" of the Toyota brand.
4) It will likely sell in the C7 Corvette range and be the Japanese Corvette.

5) The car appears to be very light and weighs only ~$1,300 kg. Let's hope they actually keep it that light.

You can also find this video on YouTube by AutoNews, where Calty bosses talking about their project:

Beautiful car... But sorry folks a sub 2900lb car with a 500hp v8 (if the figures in the post above are correct) made by Toyota isn't going to be competing price wise with the base c7 in the US. Based on the interior and exterior of that car with a drive line to match... You are looking at Audi r8 prices or gtr+ prices... Not corvette prices. That being said, if it does somehow come true, it'll be the biggest bargain on the planet. 400lbs ligher than the c7 with similar output (I imagine the LT1 will be producing ~500hp around when this car makes it to production). That being said, if it's true, I'll be in line to give them my money. My guess would be a few hundred lbs heavier... and 50-100hp less.

too futuristic looking for me and hard to imagine it as a successor to the supra if it doesn't have a turbocharged motor that is capable of making 1000 whp on stock internals. also, the suggested price point seems high to be a supra successor. i always thought of the supra as something more like an evo - a badass street car for the masses, at least those with a reasonable income.

with that said, if they can pull off a 3000 lb car with a tough 3 liter turbocharged motor, i think they'd have a winner at any price up to $100k.

There is no way a final production ft-1 with a v8 and weighing 3000lbs is going to be around 60k. Just look at the soon to be released Lexus RCF due to ship later this year. It has a NA 5.0 v8, is about 3900lbs and is estimated to have a base price of 65k

They will probably stick the same engine from the next IS-F. I have a feeling the IS-F is gonna be a V6 twin. If they price it 70K-80K like the 2015 Z06 it will be a winner.

agree with some people. some of the elements in the front are good, headlights bumper area, but the rest of the car is way overstyled and follows cues from lexus's disgusting rear taillight bumper trend..

with some simpler, cleaner lines, it could rival (IMO) the '02 rx7 looks-wise, still classic to this day. with styling how it currently is, i don't think it will age well
