Does it almost sound like it's coming from under the dash?
Mine does that, and I believe it's the blower motor clogged. At least, thats what I was told by the dealership.
Try taking out your glovebox and look at the in cabin air filter. If it's super super dirty, it could be that some of that stuff fell down into your blowermotor and clogged it. I'm going through this right now, and am in the process of figuring out how to completely get to it so I can unclog it...

Goodluck!

I have that same noise coming out, sounds like a whole bunch of sand is going through a fan lol....seems to have gone away for the last couple of days but i still want to take it out to clean it. I took the filter out to check it, but its still new, barely has 1k miles installed.

My car had about 30,000 when it started that noise.... From what I've heard, alot of lancers seem to have that problem, I guess the way its set up doesn't filter a whole lot before going through the blower motor.
Has anyone else had a problem with their low pressure drop valve leaking? Or either drop valve, for that matter?
I hooked gauges up to mine the other day, and realized mine is leaking, and I'm curious if others have had this problem, or if I just got 'lucky' with mine... haha

Remove the glove box.
Remove the filter and turn on the fan and look if anything looks wrong with the blower motor.

You really can't see anything by doing that though. From what I can tell (from what I've done so far), you have to somehow get the casing off, which would be somewhat easy if you can get the bottom of the dash off, where the blower motor essentially sits. But just from looking through where the filter is, you can't see the issue at all. From what I can tell, you'll have to get the casing off somehow... somehow get the blowermotor out, maybe.
It could be a clog in the tube that connects to it (if you feel around the bottom left of the blowermotor, you'll find a clear plasic tube that leads to it...I think the clog is where that tube is connected..sorta...hard to explain)...

Anyways, I have a friend from my school getting diagrams for me today, so if I can, I'll try to scan them in tomorrow so you can see them, too...

Unfortunately, no. I took apart the blower motor area by taking the glove box out and the bottom piece of the dash out (just remove a couple pins). I took the entire blower motor apart, and couldn't figure out what's making the noise at all. But I did find out that it's not blowing cold air because the low pressure drop valve has a leak, I added some refrigerant to it and it lasted about a month and a half (now it's out again..). I will let you know as soon as I figure something out for it...but for now, can't figure it out
