Need help random stalling
2008 Lancer GTS CVT, got about 39000 miles on it.1st problem other day at work i left the key on for about 7 hours and of course killed the battery, jumped it and it ran fine. now for some odd reason it when i starts it shoots from 400-1500 rpms bounces around then just goes dead, fires back up after ya give it a sec and runs fine. 2nd problem, sitting at traffic light i step of the brake car just stalls, no coughing or sputtering and the accessories stay on, this random stalling has now happened to me bout 4 times in the past week. any body got any ideas on problem? and yes its modded with RRM header, RRM axel back, RRM piggy back and secret weapon intake and crank pulley.

This is going to sound odd but try this. turn the car off (take the key out) and disconnect the positive battery terminal for about 15 minutes or so. reconnect it. i had similar symptoms on a cavalier from a battery replacement. took it to the dealer, two other shops and they could not find the problem. went to a small repair shop my father in law recommended and the mechanic told me to do the same and it fixed the problem. He said someimes when the batt runs dead or is replaced the ecu does not reset itself correctly and the vehicle won't run or idle correctly. I hope this is the issue. if it does not work, you might have to go to the dealer.

Sounds more and more like what was happening to me. turn on the car rpms jump up and back down stall out at idle unless you give it gas, etc, etc. I am not sure why it happens but from time to time if the batt goes dead or is either the throttle position sensor or the ecu. the reset worked on my crapalier. give it a try.

That reminds me make sure the key is out, vehicle is in park and all that jazz before you do it.

It sounds like it could be the coil pack. My brother's jetta would do that exact thing if there was any moisture around the thing.

I'm wondering if your battery is going bad maybe alternator issue not charging your battery completely...start there run a volt tester on it. Factory batteries are not the best...ecu, sensors going bad all of the sudden doesn't make sense unless there was some shorts going on upon jumping...keep us posted

its weird i noticed it only does it when the the temp drops below 65 which by me is a normal thing this time of year, even after the car is warm i come home turn it off ten minutes later i go back out turning it back on requires hard throttle like its starving for gas, and then i pray i dont hit a light with in the first ten minuts or it stalls again. and when it does i have to basically rev it to red line has i krank it. my first thought was the RRM piggy back, but that has been installed for well over 15k with no problems and nothing but good things to say about it. this problem i am stumped over and the car is becoming a problem to drive now

Thats weird. Maybe the dead battery reset something in your piggyback system. Try disconnecting and going back to the stock ECU setup (if it is practical to do so) and see if it solves things. Obviously performance wise it will be different, but see if you regain the drivability. I would try and diagnose the problem yourself at all costs, I know it might be a bear to drive now, but if it is one of your mods the dealer is going to make you pay, and void the warranty.

i listened to my dads advice on this one and got a alldata.com account pretty much there are multiple causes of the problem, and all of them are ECM related. from throttle error to lack of air. all of which requires dealer updates. the relay problem really doesnt apply unless the temp number drop to single digits. my only solution is remove the piggy back, make it look like new and head on over to my friendly costly dealer and come up with something creative to get them to do the work for warrenty free

after going to the dealer they said pull my piggy back chip and they will work with me with all the other bolt ons installed. they tried to diagnose it and they said when the hooked the car up they couldnt access any system setting via the ecm and that that chip was blocking them from doing anything. i uninstalled the piggy back and bam, car runs like the day i got it, starts up with no problem doesnt stall anymore, and i def did not notice a any drop in horse or torque. they only thing i can figure that chip was not set up properly via RRM

Just curious. What dealership did you go to? Have you spoke to RRM about this issue?
