warrenty voided cause of oil filter...

Mitsubishi has been kind enough to inform me that my warrenty has been voided on my 09 DE. Why you ask? Because I have an after market oil filter and didnt perform my oil change through their services department...

Is anyone else experiencing this issue? It seems like a monopolizing tactic to me and it doesnt seem like it should be allowed. I am going to have to take this to the BBB in Canada and see what they say about it.

Canada must be different, because that wouldn't fly in the US. I'm sure this was done in writing, and not through word of mouth from a service manager at a dealer. If so, scan the letter and let us see it.

do you have any problems with your 09 lancer that you want them to fix? how many miles on your lancer and how many oil changes done? my guess is it is only less than 4500 miles? is it the oil filter?

My understanding is that you don't have to get the car serviced at the dealership, as long as it is serviced by a professional, it's fine.

^+1. Dearler is full of ****. This topic has been around for years. By law you can get your car serviced anywhere and still keep your warranty, keep all your reciepts so you can prove that you got them done.

I would change dealerships, if they are willing to say this to you why would you want to give them your bussiness, knowing they are dicks and trying to look for ways out of warrantys.

Here is some information about dealers vs customer resolution:
Canadian goverment website
Ontario Motor Vechile industry council

"A manufacturer cannot require you to use OEM parts under threat of voiding your warranty. They can only void your warranty if they can prove that the replacement part damaged your vehicle. What you are describing is a practice called "tied selling" which is considered anti-competitive and as such, is a violation of the Canadian Competition Act." (found this with google search).

And end up in jail for assault, a great way to deal with warranty woes, prison rape. As Greedy said, you cannot be denied coverage for using non-OEM parts unless they actually cause the issue. I believe it was BMW that got in trouble for this in the past.

I am having a small clutch problem, bushing or something, i dont know. It's more of an annoyance than anything i think.

My dealership is claiming that aftermarket oil filters cause incorrect pressures in the engine, causing it to overheat or something like that. They say it happens because they sometimes dont fit correctly.

It is an 09 and i changed the oil when it looked broken down. I'd say that was somewhere around 4000km, mind you, the orange plastic dipstick they provide is an abolute piece of garbage. When I try to check the height of the oil I can never actually tell because this stick is so wide/thick it causes oil to get stuck on the walls as it comes up.

Thanks for the info guys, i will stick it to em and get my warrenty back.

Couple questions, what dealer was this at and what aftermarket filter were u using? I do my own oil changes and as long as you keep all the reciepts of the oil u purchased u are fine. They will look at the date purchased on the reciept to see if u did the change around when u were suppossed to according to there suggested intervals.

WOW! this is s#it! When I bought my car they tried to feed me this voided warranty mess, It just so happened the N. Cali District Manager was there so I told them all straight up " nobody touches my car but me, especially some punk they just promoted from sweeping floors to service expert" I then left my Lawyer's card on the table and said he would have a field day with them. the Dist, Mgr was shootin death rays through his eyes at the dip s#it Service Mgr. and you know.... I haven't seen him since. So far I only use K&N oil Filters and mobile 1 EP.

Unless you ran out of oil, this is total BS.

LoL they are BSing you. Its like saying my sirius module craped out due to improper oil changes and filters . I would go to another dealership, if you fight them on this they could do more damage to your car just out of spite.
