hid with harness wont work

Hey guys im posting this up for my buddy. he has an 08 gts and he put an hid kit in. the kit was plug and play and would work with the car turned off and once you turned the car on it would stay on. if you tried to turn the lights off and then on it wouldnt come back on. he put a relay in his car a single trigger one and the same thing happens. the only difference is this time the lights wont flicker or turn off after a while like they did before without the harness and relay. is there a way for him to solve this so he can flip his lights on even when the cars on and not having to turn his lights on before he turns his car on?

yes I suggest using a chassis or battery ground...I had the same issue with my hid system, just a little different symptoms. I wired in a relay, the his system gets straight battery/ground. My signal and ground for the relay is powered by the stock headlight wiring.

hid with harness wont work

Hey I know exactly what you are talking about because I am having the same problem with my 09 GTS where my HID's will not work even after I purchased an Harness to disable the DRL's. This is the scenario, lets say I just installed my HID's and I have not turned on car yet, well I get in my car and turn the lights on the 3rd position and bam they turn on with no problem. So then I turn them off and turn on my car, when I flip the light switch to the 3rd position once again light do not come on at all....it's kinda weird how they work while car is off and will not work when car is powered on? Frustrating had my HID kit for over a month now just sitting there at this point im trying to get my HID's replaced for another set to see if that will fix the problem cause im crossing my fingers. Im so frustrated already cause I hooked up my fogs no problem? If anyone can possibly give me their 2 cents it would be greatly appreciated. A few people I asked were clueless as well and suggested to try and see if the kit is malfunctioning for starters.

Try connecting your headlight ground to chassis or battery ground, not through factory wiring. Even though the relay is controlling the lights, the headlight harness still controls the relay and the ECu in our car both controls voltage and ground! Try this out and see how it goes...

I remember reading somewhere on here that the stock headlights are a PWM signal...aka it is not constant on or constant off. If that is the case, I dont think that the way O-nex tells you to wire the lights will work effectively. Have you tried wiring a relay in line yet?

I was looking at the wiring diagram for the headlights and they use what they call a "FEELD EFFECT TRANSISTOR"

now this may be "field," i dont know. And also I am not really into electronics other than 2005+ volvo semitrucks which use a different control module for lights....anyways

I might assume that this does use a PWM signal.... The only way to find out is to hook up a scope and find out...

Also what I found interesting was the ground wire of the headlights (which according to the manual is chassis wired) is getting a small amount of voltage, which throws any resistance readings off. I would get 40-60 mV before I chassis wired the ground...now its good... Drive up to canada and I can help you (full toolbox of electrical diagnostic tools) :P
