Music Server - FAQ/Error Messages?

I got an error message I haven't seen before this morning. While trying to record a CD, it suddenly stopped after about 10 tracks and wouldn't record anything more, it just going from one to the next after telling me "Could not record". I popped in another CD and saw the same thing, only this time after 8 tracks.

It's possible the drive is full, although I don't yet have 40 CD's worth recorded and I thought it was supposed to hold something like 100. Flipping through the manual I could not find anything regarding error messages, what the problem might be or if there is a way to tell if the drive is full.

That's the same message I get when the drive is full. Although you are correct that it should not be full. I have tried to find out how much space is left but I don't think it's possible, although I might be wrong. Try holding SET and NAVI together for a few seconds to get into some of the hidden menus... it might be in there.

I have somewhere around 105 albums on mine -- most have 11-15 tracks about 4 to 5 minutes long.

Try some more CDs and see if its consistent (not necessarily even ripping, just playing them, too). If they always fail at approximately the same position on the CD (roughly 8 tracks in, for your case) there could be something gumming up the worm gear for the laser. Possibly seeking from track 1 to the last track and back might work. If that's the case, your MMCS would probably need repaired though.

I had this issue with burned CD's too; I resolved it by writing them at a slower speed. Haven't had the problem since.

update

I finally got the one CD to burn all of the tracks and the second CD has burned all but one track. I've looked at the CD, I don't see any evidence of any scratches and if I select the track it plays just fine. I've tried removing it and putting in other (already burned) CDs, which play just fine, but when I put it back in it still won't burn. I'm going to try and rip another copy today and see if that works.

I am trying to find the option/menu that lets me input the titles for any cds I burn into the server. I have a bunch of cds that I burn from vinyl and they burn and play fine, but the title info I put on them while I burn them (initially from source) doesn't show up on the musicserver when it goes in. How do I manually put the info in (at least cd title!). thanks.

when your in the music server, there should be a little down arrow button. That should have the options for changing track titles, and album titles.

Also, for future burned CDs, use a program such as Nero that supports "CD-TEXT". This way you can store the titles directly on the disc, which the Music Server then picks up automatically when you rip the disc in the car. Its a great timesaver.
