04 oz trans in an 03 oz?

i know someone on this forum did an automatic to manual trans swap but i cant seem to find it.

anywho...
does anyone know if an 04 lancer oz trans fits and 03 lancer oz? i called 2 different mitsu dealers today here in wisconsin and they both said that they have different part numbers between the 03 and 04. i had them fax me over the exploded views and they look the same to me. does the 04 have a different gear ratio, syncros, etc whatever? or wont it even bolt up?

only reason im looking is because mine has been acting up lately and i have narrowed it down to 3 possible things all in which will be a pain. it could be input shaft bearing, the bearing on the inside of the shaft or it could be just gear mesh, but for some time now ive had grinding issues going into 3rd, and as of late it has gotten worse and now the constant grinding noise.

any help would be appreciated

They are both F5M42 transmissions and they ARE both interchangeable. They do have different part numbers because they are different revisions of the F5M42 transmission.

Not sure what the differences are. Here are the transmission codes if you want to investigate yourself.
