CVT Transmission Flush!

Alright, I spoke to Mitsubishi and asked them about the regular maintenances we are supposed to do on our car. They told me after 30k miles your supposed to do a transmission flush. Besides MITSU does anyone know if any other shop does this?

it might be during severe conditions our manual (which I dont have in front of me right now) but there are two schedules. Normal and Severe, its possible under severe conditions, like harsh weather, heavy towing all the time, that a 30k miles flush should be done. but I think the regular interval is actually 60k miles.

This is something I was going to bring up before... since I have been talking to some of my contacts in japan with boosted 4B11's but your oil changes, tranny, and other heat sensitive parts should change your fluids twice as frequently.

So a 30k mile change would be recommended if you have a turbo. Also consider changing to a better brand. I did a write up early, hmmmmm where is it

what did your contacts tell you about the 4b11 holding up on the turbo? How much boost and whp are they getting? Are any of them CVT?

Hopefully some are CVT so we can get some info (hopefully extremely positive) on what our CVT's can handle. I'm dying to know.

280 WHP before failure. Failure occured 3 times, all with continously varriable operation with the accumulation of too much heat.

well they said thats what the Autopsy showed lol

280 on a CVT is still impressive. i doubt many here who planned to go turbo with a CVT at one point or another didnt want to go too much past 210whp

Not very many '08+ CVT Lancers have 30k. I travel the country for work and my '08 Lancer is a little over a year old and I have 40k. My dealer told me that it was req'd to flush the CVT @ 30k and tried to tell me that a costly adjustment to the valve timing is also req'd. After doing some research with other dealers, I found that the valve timing adjustment is not req'd unless you are getting a clicking noise from the engine compartment. Owners beware, my 30k maintenance cost roughly $450 with a synthetic oil change. The dealer qouted over $300 for the un-needed valve timing adjustment. If you are not gettting clicking noises from the engine, you DO NOT NEED a timing adjustment.

you are supposed to change it every 30K miles based on the severe service schedule. And they don 't flush it, they just change it, you can do this yourself if you can do an oil change. The TCM does monitor the deterioration of your CVT fluid so you will have to take it to mitsu for them to reset it.

dude lol, 280WHP to the wheels is more than even a Stock EVO. actually its inline with an evo with a ECU flash and a soft bolt on.
that is alot of power. and it only failed when they continuously hammered it. I only found out recently. They didnt tell me before how many they killed and what the breaking point was.

Actually I am just eager to see the pics

unknown, the size or kiloton yield of the turbo.

so over there with boosted CVTs do they every actually use D mode? i couldnt help but expect it to be hard on the tranny if they floor it and it holding the RPM strong at 6k+, using manual mode seems like it would be safer. or can it handle both?

actually from my understanding the tranny can handle it, but the thermal buildup is what kills it. Mechanically speaking, a CVT is very durable and Can handle extra load.

I will post a document which might be helpful to everyone in understanding more about how the CVT operates
