CVT- Sport Question

Hi, i have a 08 GTS with CVT and i was wondering if im the only one that gets this or if its normal.

when im in manual and the RPM hits 2750 i get this slight vibration in the gas peddle and the engin sound changes by the time i hit 3k its gone.

also at what RPM do you usualy keep your car at when driving in manual ?

thanks

That's about the point where the mivec kicks in which could be causing that slight vibration...

I do have a CVT and unless I'm really trying to push it I shift around 3.5k

you don't keep your RPM at any speed in a manual unless you're driving at a constant speed. When I'm driving at a constant speed, I will shift (if possible) if my RPMs are over 2K, like when the speed limit is 40 - 45 MPH.

While accelerating, I normally shift somewhere between 3K and 4.5K (normal driving for me). While accelerating up the on ramps onto LA freeways, 5500 - 6500 RPMs is my shift zone (when my Injen CAI makes lots of noise). Tooling around the neighborhood: shift point is really low, but not so low the engine "bogs". When I'm in a hurry, I keep the RPMs above 2500.

If the car is brand spakin' new, try not to push it over 4.5-5k during the initial break in period, which is roughly 1k miles?

I shift at around the same times as nunyas during normal driving, when pushing it, I shift at 5.5k-6k, which is where the powerband starts to drop off with stock tuning. If you're trying to save gas, I'd just keep it in drive and don't let the rpm go over 3-4k, that seems to be the most efficient for me.

Speaking of Sport and RPMs. A friend ask me if I broke-in the High RPMs yet. Can you brake in High RPM on this car? And will the car run better after doing so? I'm cautious about doing something like this so I ask you guys.

engine break in on modern day cars is such a myth. Second read your book Im 90% sure it says 300 miles if anything for the break in

hehe i have been through the break in a while a go im up to 5,000 km seems il we are all doing the same thing

if i want to save gas i stick to drive

when im in manual i keep it between 2.5 and 3; shifting at about 3.5

if i want to push it a little more i keep it around 3 to 3.5; shifting around 4.5 - 5.

Yeah the book does say 300, but I waited until 1k just be safe. But to be honest I did push it up a couple times during the break in, and no problems, so you're probably right.

Don't worry about pushing the car to higher RPMS, the rev limiter stops you well before it can rev high enough to cause any harm. Like several other people on here have said, the car wouldn't let you rev that high if it were dangerous for the engine, especially with the stock tuning. However the power starts dropping at ~6k so you don't even need to push it to the rev limiter.

Cool thanks. I do hear alot about running at high RPM is safe. I just wanted to be sure because the high revving engine sound makes me feel I'm pushing it a bit hard. But yes, around 3k to 4.5k is pretty much the standard spot to shift since over about 5k I feel there ain't much power there-just a bit.

The manual says 300 miles to break in. But really this new cars are already broken in. It's the manufacture that wants to be sure, because they don't want to fix our cars "IF" something goes wrong with our engines. Althoug I did waited for the 300 miles. Kinda

2.5-3.5k for me, the exhaust makes it sound like i'm pushing it hard if I go over 3.5.
