How much to replace clutch in 2008 Lancer 5spd?
I am looking into buying an 08 or 09 lancer 5spd. This will be my first manual car, so I don't have a ton of previous experience driving a standard. My dad does have a hyundai elantra 5spd that I have driven a number of times. I also test drove a couple manuals and only stalled once so I am getting a lot better.
Does anyone know how long a clutch would last in my situation and what would be an estimated cost of replacing it, assuming warranty doesnt cover something like that..

If you are already worrying about replacing the clutch in a car that you don't already own, maybe you should get the CVT. The stock clutch should last a while. On my old 02 Lancer, I replaced mine at 45000 miles because I went to a 4 puck clutch, the stock clutch was a little less than half way worn.

The 08 clutch is plenty strong. I've been teaching newbs on mine for a while now. The only problem with teaching them is that its screws with that adaptive ecu, so once they are done i just take it a little hard on the car and it goes right back to whatever settings it has for me.
As for replacing a clutch. A friend of mine needed to get his clutch replaced, the place I called for him told me 1200 just to dismount the assembly. So put in another 200 in for the clutch and your looking at 1400 or so. It all depends on who you go to though.

get the clutch, everyone should know how to drive a manual in my opinion.
The first week is gonna suck (but you have some experience so it is gonna be easier than you think) but then you will wonder why people drive around in auto's.
I wanted an auto for driving to work and such, in between this car and my last car I rented a 300C for a while. BORING
I will never drive a auto again unless it is a rental. Just make sure to take your foot off the clutch after your done shifting and the clutch will last a long time. Riding the clutch is one of the hardest things for it. Not nOObs!
Good Luck

Cool, yea I know it might just take a couple days of getting used to it then I will be good to go. Hopefully the clutch will last the length of time I plan on having the car (4years). I would hate to do a $1400 repair right before selling it or trading in.
Anyways, does anyone know if my warranty would be voided if I got the short shifter from WORKS?

The clutch should be fine for more than 4 years, unless u severly beat on it.
And there is already a thread on the Works Short Throw Shifter right below this one.

I used to work at an insulation company and came in after about 6 months of being there and was told to drive the big 24' box truck which was a 6sp. I never drove standard before that but I knew the basic idea of how to do it. I stalled I think once, after that I didn't stall again. 6 months later I bought my 06. In my opinion it's extremely easy to learn stick, and as long as you don't let the clutch slip longer then you should, you'll get 100,000 miles.

Warranty is a "maybe" - the clutch is a "wear & tear" item that isn't replaced unless you can prove it was faulty. If the clutch was abused by a bad driver, it won't be replaced for free.
