Drives: 2009 Mitsu Lancer (Octane Blue)

[CVT] Can you throw the stick from D to sport while in motion?

This is something I have wondered for a while now. I have always thought (actually, I thought I read it in the book) that you have to be at a complete stop in order to go from D to Sportronic. Is this the case? Or if I'm cruising on the highway, can I throw it to the left and take control myself?

There always comes a point when I'm driving that I want to have a little fun, however, it's usually always when I'm moving and therefore, I never throw it to sport mode. By time I come to a complete stop, the trip is pretty much over, and I just forget about it.

So can you thoughtlessly throw the stick from D to sportronic and back to drive while the car is moving ( >15mph)?

IT DOESNT....
i do it all the time..
even when you are sticking from 1st to 4th and then put in D.
you have a nice acceleration.
or when you are in D... trow it to Manual and you will get the gear that you are driving.
when i am driving normal.. in D... and then i want some speed.. i inmediatley put in Manual and go back one gear-
try it...
it will not happen any bad things to the tranny..

You don't need to throw the lever at all to engage sport mode. Just pull one of the paddles for up/downshift and it you will enter into sport mode. It will then stay in sport mode until you come to a complete stop, upon which it returns to D mode. If it was bad for the car, I don't think Mitsu would let you enter the sport mode just by pulling on one of the paddles.

i am aways switching between sports mode and D mode. I just love pushing the stick from d to sportmode when im coming out of a turn and downshift once to get a quick acceleration.

I use D when i'm cruising on the highway to save gas. D sounds too funny with my exhaust.

Cool...thanks for the responses guys!

i just re-read the manual and it DOES say that you CAN go from D to sport while in motion. I guess I initially just misread

Cheers!

I knew that you did not have to move the stick and the complete stop part, but I did not know that by holding the up-shift paddle wwould do it to!

That is cool. You learn somthing new every day. Good stuff!
